PREFACE
Praise be to God Almighty for the blessings of his grace, and that we were given the
opportunity to be able to complied a paper entitled “ Identify noun phrase verb phrase,
adjective phrase, adverb phrase, and prepositional phrase” is properly and correctly, and on
time.
The purpose of writing this paper is to fulfill the assignment given by Mrs. Ade
Silvana M.pd, as a lecturer in syntax courses. In preparing this paper, we as authors faced
many challenges and obstacles, but with the help of various parties, this paper was finally
completed.
The author realizes that this paper is still far from perfection, both in terms of
preparation and material. Therefore, the author hopes that criticism from all readers can help
the author perfect the next paper. Finally, I hope that this paper can be useful and add to the
development of insight for readers.

INTRODUCTION
A. The Background
In learning English, we must first know the basics. So that it can help us learn
more complex sentence forms one of which is learning the basic forms, Sentence,
pronunciation and grammar, This paper contains material on the structure of Phrase,
namely: Noun phrases, adjective phrases, adverb phrases, verb phrases, and
prepositional phrases. By studying this paper or material, we can understand the
procedures of the English language and become fluent.
B. Purpose of Writing

DISCUSSION
A. PHRASE
A phrase consists of the describe and the describe. Phrases are also groups of
word that have their own meaning and are part of sentence. A phrases is a collection
of two or more words that can be used as a grammatical unit in a sentence (Richad, el
at.2002). phrases are also defined as grammatical units consisting of two or more
words that do not exceed the limits of the function of clause elements (Ramlan,
1982:138). In other words, the phrases only occupies one function in the clause,
namely the function of subject (s), predicate (p), object (o), complement, and
description (ket). 1
“In linguistic analysis, a phrases is a group of words or perhaps a single word
that functions as the syntactic organization of a sentence, a unit in the hierarchy of
Agrammatics” (Oxford Dictionary, 1986). A phrases is a series of words, the words of
which are not verbs, but had + modifier. Head (the word being described), Modifier
(the word describing). Generally, in phrase, the modifier comes before the verb.
B. PHRASE STRUCTURE
The phrase structure is ag group of phrases seen from the equation of its
distribution with the category (type, class, or class) of word. Based on the category,
phrases can divided into several groups, namely:

a pronoun.

The verb phrase is also another very important syntax category. Some
example include phrases like the following :
Snore
Like marry
Give a prize to John
Want to leave
Can lift 100 pounds
A verb phrase can be used as the predicate of a sentence, as in the example
below:
a. Pija and Nora like English

b. Intan want to leave

c. The dog is running
VP
Certain verbs, such as snore, swim, talk, trow, take and die, can from a verb
phrase all by themselves, verb of this sort called intransitive verbs, certain
other verbs form a verb phrase by combining with a noun phrase. Such verb
are called transitive verbs, the noun phrase with which a transitive verbs
combines is its direct object, as in the following examples:
Like Mary
Chase cars
Annoy three burly sergeants
