Objective

Given evidence-based teaching on using coins and paper currencies TSWBAT identifies coin names and
amounts and the amounts of paper currency with an accuracy of 90% or more.

Teaching Procedures

Anticipatory Set:

Have you ever wanted to buy something from the store? Today we will learn how to use coins and paper
currency, which is what you would use to buy something from the store.

Teaching Procedures:

Step one – Teach the names of coins.

Step two – Teach the monetary value of coins.

Step three – Teach the monetary value of paper currency.

Step 4 – Guided practice with “shop” game and smart board sort and match games

Step 5 – Independent practice with the “shop” game by asking students to realize and correct mistakes
on their own.

Materials

1) Smartboard
2) Coins and paper currency
3) Fake cash register
4) Stuff around the room
5) “tags” with prices
