REASON 1: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN
YOU LITTER?

First of all, over 100,000 marine

animals lose their lives because of
eating litter or getting trapped
within plastic.
Secondly, There is a high risk of
eating litter from fish because the
fish may eat the litter we dump into
the ocean.
Thirdly, most litter will not degrade
in the ocean, meaning it will stick
around for longer, just waiting to be
noticed and eaten.
And fourthly, endangered species
Bac such as whales, turtles and seals
will become even more endangered.

REASON 2: FACTS ABOUT LITTERING

Did you
know?
1. A plastic bag takes 10 - 20 years to
degrade in the ocean waters.
2. If a plastic bag eaten by an animal is big
enough, that animal may need a surgical
operation to get rid of the plastic bag.
3. Over 1 million sea birds are killed by the
pollution we create.
4. There is an island of garbage in the
middle of the ocean twice the size of
texas.
Toxic metals dumped into the ocean

5.

dramatically effects the reproduction of

animals in the sea.
k
REASON 3: WHY WE DO IT?

As humans start to litter, it becomes a

habit, a very bad one.
Lack of knowledge of the environmental
impacts.
People think that one piece of garbage
won’t hurt, until it all starts to add up.
Some people can’t be stuffed putting their
rubbish in the bins.
Wind can blow rubbish away and
sometimes we don’t even notice.

k How to improve...
1. Do not be lazy
2. Do not let it become a habit
3. If you see some litter which now you know can harm other animals, pick it up.
4. Use containers instead of plastic bags.
5. Do not leave glass bottles in the ocean, it is extremely dangerous and takes
1,000,000 years to degrade.
6. Assist animals that got hurt because of litter if you see one.
7. Tell others about the dangers of littering and make sure they spread the word
across the planet.
