3. Course Description:
This intensive course is for foreign students who passed CHIN9504 last semester or have equivalent
competence. It intends to enhance overall language competence in listening, speaking, reading and
writing. It also provides a chance for the students to understand more about Chinese culture and society.
About 250 new characters, 400 new words and 100 core sentences will be taught in this level in
addition to 1400 Chinese characters acquired from previous levels.
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
a. speak clearly and fluently in Chinese.
b. write Chinese correctly by using the words and grammars learnt before and in this semester.
c. enlarge vocabulary.
d. know more about Chinese cultures.

l Textbook: “New Practical Chinese Reader 新实用汉语课本(2nd Edition 第 2 版)” book 3 第三
册+ Workbook 练习册 (Lesson 27-32) , can be gotten by
purchasing hard copies at the Pop-up bookstore:

5. Learning contents:

6. Preparation:
We strongly encourage you to attend the class, prepare for each lesson before and review after class,
and actively involve the activities such as discussions, dialogues, paraphrasing and presentations etc.

7. Attendance:

You do not have to come class only if you are sick, otherwise please come to class on time. You will
loss marks for class activities and dialogue plays if you missed the classes.

*Mid-Term Tests (10% oral + 10%written)and Final Tests /exercises (10% oral + 10% written)
– Each test has two parts, speaking and written. Instructions will be given in class no less than 2 weeks
before the test days: Refer to the SCHEDULE.

Ø 20% marks will be deducted for late submitting tests and Essay

Ø No make-up for Class activities and Dialogue plays except you are sick with doctor’s approve

Ø -1 mark for late completing the work book exercises

The focus will be on simplified characters.
