DETAILED LESSON PLAN FOR DEMONSTRATION TEACHING

SCHEDULE: May 24, 2023
PRESENTER: Romina V. Daquel | BSE English 2E
I. LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
1. Understand the concept of stanines and how they are used to scale and
compare test scores;
2. calculate stanines for a given set of test scores;
3. analyze and interpret the meaning of stanine scores.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TOPIC: Standard Nine
B. MATERIALS:
For Priming: Stanine Song
For Activity: Blackboard, Chalk, Eraser
For Assessment: Activity Sheets
C. STRATEGIES:
Cooperative Learning, Game-Based Learning

III. LEARNING ACTIVITY

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Routinary Activities
1. Prayer
“Let us start our day with a prayer.
May I request everyone to stand up?” The students will stand up.

“May I request [student’s name] to

lead the prayer?” [student’s name] will lead the prayer.

2. Greetings
“Good afternoon class!” “Good afternoon, Ma’am!”

3. Classroom Management
“Before you sit down, kindly pick up
the trash that you can see and please
arrange your seats properly. The students will do what is told.

4. Attendance
“For the attendance, may I request the
class secretary to state the name of The class secretary will say the names of the

5. Recall
“Just for a recall of the previous
lesson that we had, can someone tell
me in what kind of measure of central
tendencies we use this formula?

𝑥 = Σ𝑥𝑖/𝑛 “The answer is mean”

How about this formula?

Σ(𝑥𝑖−𝑥
σ = 𝑛 “The answer is standard deviation.”

“Alright, good job students. I am glad

that you still remember the past
lesson as it is connected in today’s
lesson”

“For today’s lesson, we are going to

discover what Standard Nine is and
how to compute it. “

Priming

“According to a famous lyricist (Yip Harburg)

that “Words make you think. Music makes
you feel. A song makes you feel a thought” so
today I prepared a song for you that will
surely be helpful in our lesson for today which
is Standard Nine”

“This song is entitled “Stanine, stanine” and it

is sang with the tune of Row, row, row your
boat”

“Do you still remember the tune of Row your

boat?” “Yes, ma’am”

“Well that’s great. I will sing the song first and

after me, I will let you sing it, alright?” “Yes, ma’am”

“The steps in calculating the Standard Nine

score are within that song and I want you to
remember those steps with the help of that
song so may I request everyone to sing it
once again?“ The students will sing the song again.

Activity

The teacher will discuss what stanine is and

how stanines are calculated using the mean
and standard deviation of the test scores.

The teacher will show examples on the board

or with a projected image to demonstrate the
calculation of stanines step-by-step and will
ask certain students in front to calculate some
given test scores. A table will be presented as
a conversion table of stanine scores.

chalks and Erasers. These materials will be
distributed to each group and we will play the
game I called “Stanine, Stanine, who’s first to
score?”

Game Mechanics:
The students will solve math equations as a

points. Each group will compete against each
● blackboard other to be the first to shout the correct
● chalk answer and earn a point.
● Math equations (prepared in advance)

1. Divide the students into three groups:

red, blue, and green, with each group
consisting of 9 members.
2. Provide each group with a whiteboard
or blackboard and markers or chalk.
3. The teacher recites/writes the
questions.

Gameplay:
1. The teacher reveals the first given
question.
2. Simultaneously, each group works
together to answer and write it on their
respective boards.
3. The first group to solve the question
and have the correct answer shouts
"Stanine (group color)!".
4. The teacher acknowledges the first
group to shout and asks for their
answer.
5. If the answer is correct, the group
earns a point.
6. The teacher reveals the correct
answer.
7. Repeat the process with the next
question, ensuring that all groups
have a fair chance to participate and
shout the correct answer.
8. Keep track of the points earned by
each group on the board.
9. At the end of the game, count the
points for each group and announce
the winning team with the highest
score.

“The winner of the game is [group name]!

Please give them a round of applause” The students will applaud.

Analysis

“Based on your active participation in the

activity, I can see that you have learned how
to solve the stanine of a set of scores.”

“Who among the class knows the sequence

sequence?”

Great Job!

Abstraction

The teacher will post a question on the board.

“As future educators, in what situations is

stanine particularly useful or appropriate?”

“Who wants to answer?” Students raise their hands.

The teacher calls a student's name. The students answer.

“Stanine is useful when comparing individual
scores to a larger group, such as in
standardized testing or educational
assessments, to understand relative
performance. It helps identify areas of
strength and weakness and track progress
over time.”

“Exactly! It provides a quick snapshot of

performance levels and aids in
decision-making processes related to
education and assessment.

Application
The teacher will ask the student to get a ¼
sheet of paper and solve for the stanine of The students will answer the problem in 2

Calculate the stanine for a test score of 85,

given a mean score of 75 and a standard
deviation of 8.

“In this example, class the test score of 85

falls within the eighth stanine, indicating very
high performance compared to the group”

Assessment

The teacher will give the students hand-outs

which they will work in pairs to solve for the
stanine of the given data sets.

Assignment

“Before I dismiss you let me give you this

assignment. “

“Reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of
