Di akhir kursus ini, pelajar dapat:
1) Membincang interaksi antara sains, teknologi dan
masyarakat.
2) Melaporkan kepentingan penghasilan ilmu sains
baru, peranan komuniti saintifik, nilai dan
komunikasi saintifik.
3) Menjelaskan kesan interaksi antara sains, teknologi
dan masyarakat kepada pembangunan mampan.
Kursus ini mengkaji interaksi antara sains, teknologi dan
masyarakat dari pelbagai perspektif. Kursus ini
membincangkan impak kemajuan sains dan teknologi
(S&T) ke atas masyarakat, dan sebaliknya.
Perbincangan ini merangkumi pelbagai aspek utama
dalam Pengajian S&T, iaitu penyelidikan dan
pembangunan saintifik, pembangunan mampan, etika
dan nilai, sejarah dan falsafah, ekonomi, dasar dan
pengurusan. Kombinasi sedemikian menggalakkan
komunikasi disiplin yang pelbagai dan pelajar akan lebih
menghargai hubungan kompleks di mana sains,
teknologi dan masyarakat berinteraksi. Berdasarkan
pemahaman ini, pelajar akan berbahas tentang status,
isu dan cabaran aktiviti S&T terpilih dalam konteks
tempatan.

At the end of the course, students are able to:
1) Discuss the interaction between science,
technology and society.
2) Report the importance of producing new scientific
knowledge, the role of scientific community, values
and scientific communication
3) Describe the impact of the interaction between
science, technology and society towards
sustainable development.
This course examines the interaction between science,
technology and society from various perspectives. It
provides discussion on the impacts of science and
technology (S&T) progress on society, and vice versa.
The discussions comprise the various main aspects of
S&T Studies, namely scientific research and
development, sustainable development, ethics and
values, history and philosophy, economics, policy and
management. Such combination encourages
communication of diverse diciplines and students will
better appreciate the complex ways in which science,
technology and society interact. Based on this
understanding, students will debate on the status,
issues and challenges of selected S&T activities in the
local context.
Continuous Assessment: 60%
Final Examination: 40%
