Topic: Comparing and Ordering Numbers
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
a) compare and order numbers up to 100,000
b) arrange numbers from least to greatest and vice versa
Activity: Concept note, drill and exercises.
When comparing two whole numbers, line up the digits in column and start comparing from the greatest
place value
When aligning whole numbers in column and there is a messing digit use the digit zero as a placeholder
When comparing two whole numbers with different number of digits, the more digits there are, the greater
the number.

< - less than
= - equals
We use the relation symbols to compare the value of numbers.
When ordering whole numbers from least to greatest or greatest to least, numbers are compared two at a
time.
* to arrange or order numbers in ascending or increasing order, start from least to the greatest.
* to arrange or order numbers in descending or decreasing order, start from greatest to the
least.
Ex.
Example:
Compare 35,321 and 35 719
