Topic: Comparing and Ordering Numbers
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
a) compare and order numbers up to 100,000
b) arrange numbers from least to greatest and vice versa
Activity: Concept note, drill and exercises.

Concept Note 1.4

 When comparing two whole numbers, line up the digits in column and start comparing from the greatest
place value
 When aligning whole numbers in column and there is a messing digit use the digit zero as a placeholder
 When comparing two whole numbers with different number of digits, the more digits there are, the greater
the number.
>- greater than
< - less than
= - equals
 We use the relation symbols to compare the value of numbers.
 When ordering whole numbers from least to greatest or greatest to least, numbers are compared two at a
time.
 * to arrange or order numbers in ascending or increasing order, start from least to the greatest.
 * to arrange or order numbers in descending or decreasing order, start from greatest to the
least.
Ex.

Example:
Compare 35,321 and 35 719
