SETTING- THE FRONT OF A VILLAGE HOUSE
(EVERYONE SITS DOWN IN A CIRCLE WAITING FOR FEMI TO RETURN FROM
SCHOOL)
NARRATOR 1 (OLAOLUWA)- A Yoruba tale says a child who doesn’t want his mother to rest and
would not rest. Young Femi was with his friend wandering the streets and having fun, still overfilled with
joy as the reminiscence of how he skipped school filled his head. Thinking about the so called genius
explanation that he was going to tell his parents.
NARRATOR 2 (NINIOLA)-Young Femi has deceived himself by refusing to go to school and to his
surprise, his mother was already a step ahead of him. He comes back home with excitement ready to
mask up and tell his mother about how good ‘school’ was for him today. As he gets to the living room, he
was confronted by the sudden appearance of his mother and father with a face that as a Yoruba child
would say- THE FACE OF NO GOING BACK.
NARRATOR 3 (JADESOLA)-Daddy Femi was standing in the living room one hand on his chin and
another around a belt. Mummy Femi was in the corner already fearing for son about the trouble he has
landed inside. There was tension in the room as DADDY FEMI started scolding FEMI about the things
he heard coming from school. Young Femi was part of the group of boys that didn’t go to school that day
and Daddy Femi was absolutely disgraced, He stared at his son with pure disgust as he stretched out his
belt and began flogging Femi with all his might and anger. He felt so embarrassed to the point he looked
at his wife and told her “Look at your child”- A word no mother wants to ever hear. Jadesola felt so
ashamed and even tried to cover her face amidst his words. Femi was told to leave the room immediately
and go to his room
.
NARRATOR 4(FEMI)- After the pressure had subside, Mummy Femi and Daddy Femi sat there in the
living room with Dunsyn and Jadesola, talking about everything and how sad they felt about this news but
also regret some of their actions because they didn’t wait to hear his story. They sat there for about 2
hours talking to each other about it, inter switching with different good memories that Femi had gone
through and had before hearing this dreadful news. Soon enough, they called Femi back from his room to
talk to him.
NARRATOR 5(DUNSYN)-Femi sat down with fear instilled in him from his previous lashes. His
parents calmly decided to ask him and he confessed that he didn’t go to school that day because his friend
wasn’t feeling well. His parents pulled him closer and gave him a warm hug feeling empathetic and sorry
for overreacting a few hours ago. The whole family gathers round and hug each other.

NARRATOR 3 (JADESOLA)-The moral of the story is don’t be like Young Femi and use the
common sense in your brain to not skip school ooo always be an honest child of God.
