Senior Accountant

JOB TITLE: Senior Accountant

REPORTING TO: Assistant Manager – Finance and Accounts

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:


Woodstock School is looking for a Senior Accountant and provides the right candidate with an opportunity to
function in a dynamic role of handling various important tasks. The candidate will broaden their work experience
and gain insights similar to working at a multi-national company.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Manager – Finance and Accounts. Broadly, the right candidate will be
responsible for managing the student accounts, statutory compliances, GST, FCRA and the School’s Provident Fund
Trust. The position requires communication with Heads of Schools, senior administrators, students, and parents on
a regular basis. The candidate will be responsible for implementing key strategic and tactical initiatives developed
with the Assistant Manager – Finance and Accounts and Head of Finance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary responsibilities largely but not limited to - the candidate will be responsible for:

• Timely delivery of MIS reports to the Assistant Manager – Finance & Accounts.
• Full cycle of managing the student accounts from billing to recovery.
• Payroll processing and taxation.
• Managing the School and the Provident fund books of accounts for assigned areas.
• Compliances for all statutory and regulatory requirements as they apply to the school.

In the pursuit of your job, you will be required to:


• Communicate and be the point of contact between the Business Office and the employees, students and
parents.
• Be familiar with the concept of self-assessment. This would require making assessments of tasks at hand
and setting objective measures for them to track progress.
• Work with the Assistant Manager – Finance and Accounts to:
o identify, develop and deliver such reports as would be necessary to track various financial
components of the school.
o would be responsible for the regular, timely and accurate delivery of all such reports. Example of such
reports are – Fees outstanding from students, amounts owing in security deposits, status of
Investments, budget variance reports etc.

• Ensure that all relevant information is available for Internal Auditors, Statutory Auditors, and statutory
agencies.
• Reduce repeat findings in Audits (both Internal & Statutory) to nil.
• Ensure that all statutory and regulatory compliances are being dealt with.
Requirements:
• Masters with MBA/CA-Intermediate (Desired) with a strong accounting background will be preferred.
• Been in a position of managing a similar profile for a minimum period of five years.
• Proven track record of successful management experience in above position, which would include
monthly closing of books, effective management of financial systems and, procedures, timely execution
of reporting by key internal and statutory deadlines and experience with implementing internal checks
and controls.
• Exposure to dealing with foreign exchange and/or an international environment.
• Work experience in an International Residential school will be an asset however not a necessity.
• Exposure to having people dealings is a must. A residential school is a unique 24-hour community, and
the candidate must be effective at recognizing and integrating into that community.
• Expert user of Excel. Above average knowledge of database and/or knowledge of database development
will be an asset.
• Advanced user of Microsoft Navision (accounting software) and/or experience on working with an ERP
solution.
• Working knowledge of the FCRA (Foreign Contributions Regulations Act), Income Tax Act, Societies Act,
GST, EPF Act.
