MAJOR HAZARDS IN EXCAVATION

ACTIVITY
Hazard: Slip trip fall
CONTROL MEASURE

 Maintaining a dry, smooth, clean, and object-free working environment.

 Ensure that all employees wear full PPEs.
 Maintain good housekeeping.
 Make a proper site-based risk TBT.
 Constantly monitor and supervise the site.

Hazard: Falling from height

CONTROL MEASURE

 Barricade all the excavating places.

 Ensure, that all employees must wear full PPEs all the time.
 No one is allowed entry to the site unless they have received sufficient training and protective
equipment.
 Conduct a TBT for the employees.

Hazard: Collapsing and sliding of the excavated soil.

CONTROL MEASURE

 Place a timber shoring in the trench to guard against possible cave-ins or slides.
 Provide fencing /barricade along with the excavation.
 Forbid the pile materials along the edges
 Keep a safe distance of 1.5-2 meters from the excavated soil's edge.
 Barricade the spot with reflective caution tape.
 All employees must be worn all the PPEs all the time
 Monitoring and supervision are needed all the time.

Hazard: Material falling into the excavation site

CONTROL MEASURE

 No simultaneous operations are permitted in the same location.

 Before commencement of activity refers to ensuring consistent communication with the area
responsible.
 Evaluate from time to time the activities to avoid interference and transfer of risk.

  Employees must use all PPEs all the time.
 Post caution safety signs on the site.
 Before accessing the working area, check slope stability and integrity and adopt the necessary
support measures.
 Monitoring and supervision must be needed.

ACTIVITY
Hazard: slip trip and fall
CONTROL MEASURE

 Maintaining a dry, smooth, clean, and object-free working environment.

 Always wear appropriate safety garments (helmets, gloves, safety shoes).
 Never stand in unprotected structure to cast.
 Clear instruction and training to the employees.

Hazard: Foreign body into eyes

CONTROL MEASURE

 Always wear appropriate safety goggles.

 Clear instruction and training to the employees.

Hazard: manual handling

 Avoid handling too heavy objects.
 Max weight to handle per worker in 30Kg.
 Wear appropriate PPEs.
