CVC SEGMENT AND BLEND Cards!
Segmenting and Blending Cards provide students the opportunity

to isolate (segment) individual sounds (phonemes) within words
and blend them together. Each CVC (consonant-vowel-
consonant) word on the card has three dots and an arrow.
Sometimes it is difficult for beginning readers/struggling readers to
sound words because they are so close together. However, the
dots help students isolate each sound and the arrow helps them
to blend the sounds together to form a word.
As students become skilled at segmenting and blending words,

they move towards fluency. Fluency shows that they are able to
read with speed and accuracy. This set provides students with 50
cards of practice. Each card has 12 words for practice, with a
total of 600 words within the set. The sets focus on individual short
vowel sounds and to build confidence and moves towards a
mixed review for accuracy.
HOW TO PREP THE CARDS
There are many different ways that you can prep these cards for
your classroom and/or individual students.
Make a Class Set:
To make a Class Set, simply print and laminate for durability. Hole
punch the upper left hand corner of the list, and cut out the cards
down the center line. Attach the lists with a one inch binder ring.
If you want students to have individual sets, just print, cut and
staple.
Easy Prep Class Binder Set:
Do you still want to use the CVC Segmenting and Blending cards,
but don’t have time to prep them? No problem! Simply print your
copies, slip them into sheet protectors and place them in a binder.
This option allows you to save on paper while making a set that can
be used over and over again with a dry erase marker.
