CIRCLE
A circle is a closed figure which has no edges or corners
CENTRE :
The centre of the circle is called a centre
CIRCUMFERENCE :
The enclosing boundary of a circle is called
as circumference.
RADIUS :
A straight line drawn from the centre of the circle to
the circumference of the cirle is called as radius.
Infinite number of radius can be drawn in a circle.
CHORD:
The line segment, joining any two points on the
circumference is called a chord.
210 chords can be drawn in a circle.
DIAMETRER :
A chord which passes through the centre of the
circle is called as a diameter, it is the biggest chord of the circle.
Diameter is twice the radius.
Infinite number of diameters can be drawn in a circle.
(i)Exterior Point :
A plane lying on the same plane as that of circle is
called an exterior point , if its distance from centre of the circle is
greater than the radius of the circle
Equal circle :
Circles are said to be equal if they have equal radii.
Equal circles are also called congruent circles
Circumscribed circle :
A circle that passes through all the vertices
of a polygon is called a circumscribed circle. The centre of
circumscribed circle is called circumcentre and the polygon is called
inscribed polygon.
Inscribed circle :
A circle that touches all the sides of a polygon is
called a inscribed circle of the polygon.
Chord properties
Theorem 22 :
A straight line drawn from the centre of a centre to
bisect a chord, which is not a diameter, is at right angles to the
chord.
Theorem 23 :
The perpendicular to a chord, from the centre of the
circle, bisects the chord.
Theorem 24 :
Equal chords of a circle are equidistant from the
centre.
Theorem 25 :
Chords of a circle, equidistant from the centre of the
centre of the circle.
Theorem 26 ;
There is one and only one circle, which passes
through three given points not in a straight line.
