WEATHER
Is the temporary
condition of the
atmosphere which may
change for a period of
hours or days.
FORECAST
WEATHER
Highly variable day to
day.

Example, an area can

have a warm summer
this year and a warm
summer the next year.
CLIMATE

01
Is the total
condition of the
atmosphere over
many years.

year.
1 - LATITUDE
Measurement of
distance north or south
of the equator.

Your location on Earth

influences the climate
you have.
1 - LATITUDE
The main reason that
affects the climate of
any place is its distance
from the equator.

Latitude

> Temperature
1 - LATITUDE
Lower latitudes around
the equator get the
most sunlight; these
areas stay warm all year.
The Philippines has high
temperatures all year
round due to its location
close to the equator.
Have you ever been
to Baguio City?
2 - ALTITUDE
Baguio City, "The
Summer Capital" of the
Philippines, is about
2,300 feet directly above
sea level.
The height or elevation
of the area influences its
climate.
2 - ALTITUDE
Area

Temperature

Temperature drops
about 2̊C for each 300m
or 1,000ft of altitude.
2 - ALTITUDE
At higher elevations,
there's less air. Air
molecules are farther
apart, making the air
less dense.
Less dense air can't
absorb heat, making air
temperature decrease.
2 - ALTITUDE
Therefore, we can conclude
that altitude affects the air
temperature.

3 - TOPOGRAPHY
Refers to the natural
features or arrangement
of an area like land.
Mountainous areas
greatly affect the
amount of precipitation
in a certain region.

4 - OCEAN
CURRENTS
The flows of water
running in the ocean.

They move like rivers

and flow through the
ocean in different
directions.
4 - OCEAN
CURRENTS
Oceans heat up and cool
down slower than land; which
means coastal regions tend to
be cooler in summer and
warm in winter.
Currents are caused by the
wind, earthquakes, and
gravity.
CORIOLIS EFFECT
KUROSHIO
CURRENT
Ocean currents that
flow away from the
equator carry warm
water, resulting in a
warm climate.
W. AUSTRALIA
CURRENT
Ocean currents that
flow away from the
equator carry cold
water, resulting in a cold
climate.
5 - WIND
SYSTEMS
People residing nearby
oceans and lakes feel the
breeze.

There are two types of

breeze - land breeze and
sea breeze.
SEA BREEZE

During the day, warm

air over the land rises
and is exchanged by
the cool air over the
water.
LAND BREEZE
During the night, the
land turns out to be
cooler than water.

Warmer air over the

water increases and is
replaced by cooler air
from the land.
5 - WIND SYSTEMS
On big surfaces, continents
heat and cool faster than
oceans. A center of low
pressure (warm air) builds
over the continent while
high pressure (cold air)
builds over the nearby
ocean.
NORTHEAST
MONSOON
From October to February, a
high-pressure region builds
over Southern Siberia and
India in winter because of the
cold air over these areas. It
reaches the Philippines from
a northeasterly direction.
SOUTHWEST
MONSOON
From June to September, the
continent of Asia turns out to
be warmer than the oceans
nearby. It goes toward the
Asian continent from a
southwest direction.
6 - EARTH'S
MOVEMENT
One side faces the sun while the
other side is in darkness.
The earth’s axis is inclined at 23
1⁄2 degrees.
Because of this, some portions
of the earth receive vertical rays
while other parts receive
diagonal rays.
Regions on earth that receive
vertical rays have hot climates
roughly all year round. Those
which get diagonal rays have
cooler climates.
Areas on this side of the earth
get a hot season or summer.
Those places which are tilted
away from the sun get cold
seasons or winter.
