The Union Public Service Commission will announce the examination for Engineering Ser-
vices for the recruitment of various posts 2020 (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electron-
ics & Telecommunication Engineering) in accordance with the Ministry of Railways. Candi-
dates who are coming from an engineering background and are looking forward to working
with the government sector of India in the ministry of railways should not miss out on this
huge opportunity that is offered to them. The UPSC will announce the recruitment details
along with the application form on the official website and candidates can start applying for
the examination under the respective posts. In this article, we will provide all aspiring can-
didates with the IES Syllabus for EEE. Knowing the syllabus in advance is essential and
beneficial to candidates as it helps them prepare better for the examination and can have a
grave idea on what to expect at the time of the examination. Read the entire article below

UPSC IES EEE 2020 Syllabus


In the UPSC IES for the post of the Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Telecommuni-
cation Engineering, both examinations will follow the same process which would consist of
Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination and Personality Test/Interview as stage wise.
Only if the candidates qualify each stage will they be considered for the post which would be
finalised by the UPSC board. We can now take a look at the detailed IES Syllabus for EEE as
given below and candidates can start their preparations for the examination accordingly.

UPSC IES Electrical Engineering 2020 Prelims (Stage I) Syllabus


The syllabus for UPSC IES Electrical Engineering for 2020 is given below in detail for both
Preliminary Examination and Mains Examination separately. Candidates should keep in
mind that the prelims examination will be an objective type paper and the mains examina-
tion will be a conventional/subjective type paper.

UPSC IES EEE 2020 General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Syllabus
The General Studies and Engineering Aptitude is common to all candidates in the prelimi-
nary section. This section will include relevant topics which are already known to engineer-
ing candidates. Candidates can try to score as many marks as possible under this section.

Electrical Engineering)
 With a total of 500 marks, Paper-I will carry 200 marks and Paper-II will carry 300
marks respectively.
 Paper-I will be of 2 hours and paper-II will be of 3 hours duration.
 For every correct answer 2 marks will be awarded to the candidate.
 There will be a negative marking/penalty of ⅓ for every wrong answer given by the
candidate.
 If a question is left blank there will be no penalty for it.
 If a candidate has given more than one answer for a question, it will be treated as a
wrong answer and there will be a penalty as mentioned above.

UPSC IES EEE Personality Test/Interview (Stage III) 2020


Candidates who have qualified both stage I and stage II will be called up for the personality
test/interview which will be the last round of the selection process to the post. The person-
ality test will be the same for both Electrical and Electronic Engineering. In this section, the
candidate’s capacity for leadership, intellectual curiosity, and other social qualities along
with powers of practical application and integrity of character will be evaluated. The per-
sonality test will consist of a total of 200 marks. Candidates who qualify this round and
make it to the final list prepared by the board will be considered eligible for the post.
