Title: Fallen
Author: Lauren Kate
Genre: Young adult fiction, romance, fantasy, and paranormal.
Fallen begins with Luce Price being sent to Sword & Cross, a reform
school for troubled teenagers. Luce carries a dark secret; she has been
plagued by mysterious and dangerous shadows throughout her entire
life. At Sword & Cross, Luce meets many intriguing characters, including
her fiery roommate Arriane, the enigmatic and brooding Daniel Grigori,
and the charming and charismatic Cam.
As Luce spends more time at Sword & Cross, she discovers that
there is more to Daniel than meets the eye. Despite his initial coldness
towards her, Luce finds herself drawn to him, sensing a connection that
she cannot explain. As the story unfolds, Luce begins to unravel the
secret behind her shadows and her connection to the supernatural
world.
The novel explores several themes such as love, destiny, and the
eternal struggle between good and evil. The concept of forbidden love
is prominent, as Luce and Daniel's relationship is plagued by obstacles
and secrets. The theme of self-discovery is also significant, as Luce
embarks on a journey to uncover her true nature and purpose in the
midst of celestial conflict.
