Coffee Marble Cake

I got this cake from some website but to be honest i dont really remember which one.. i have this habit of just saving the recipes i like on a word document so i usually loose the source Anyway i apologize for not being able to give the original source This cake is actually one of my favorites .. its very moist and perfect for breakfast its very easy to make .. all you need is a hand mixer to make it you need: - 2 cups flour - 1/2 ts salt - 1/4 ts baking powder - 1/4 ts baking soda - 1/2 cup butter.. which is around 4 ounces - 1 cup sugar - 1 ts vanilla - 3 eggs - 1 cup yogurt - 1/4 cup instant coffee

I love marble cakes! I use to save my recipes like that, cut and paste then I found the little gem of a site Delicious I like the ease of that much more than cut and paste. Wish I had a piece of that cake with my coffee this morning!

coffee flavor in cakes such as this.

cath 20/02/2009 at 2:25 AM

can i use chocolate instead of coffee???? also sour cream instead of yogurt??

Anita 20/02/2009 at 6:29 AM

I always thought marble cake was gross but this totally changed my mind! What kind of yogurt did you use?

foodtruthandbeauty

limeandlemon
21/02/2009 at 12:45 AM

Cath: if you want to substitute chocolate for coffee i would suggest using the one for hot chocolate because in this recipe the instant coffee melts right in the batter and it doesnt make it more firm .And about the sour cream for yogurt .. i never really tried it with sour cream .. but i wouldnt recommend it ..as the yogurt is more acidic than the sour cream (meaning its a little more sour).. and that might effect the cake hope this helps stay in touch

limeandlemon
21/02/2009 at 12:48 AM

Anita: Well im gald that this recipe helps I use normal yogurt .. nothing flavored i hope u give it a try .. let me know if u do stay in touch

23/03/2009 at 6:27 PM Hi limeandlemon. Id like to try your coffee cake and was wondering what kind of flour you use. Is it plain flour (think thats called all purpose in the USA) or is it what we call self raising in the UK where the raising agents are in the flour already? Thank you!

limeandlemon
23/03/2009 at 7:53 PM

Hay Scotty The flour i used is normal plain flour (all purpose one) not the self rising one just plain flour . let me know how it turns out and stay in touch Laila

08/01/2010 at 10:21 PM

helo..just discovered ur blog..just wanted to know if u use metric cup or US cup..let me knw plz asap koz am gonna try out this recipe tomorrow thx

Laila

09/01/2010 at 12:21 AM Hi Naailah the measurements i use are in a metric cup . do let me know how the recipe turns out and stay in touch

Naailah
09/01/2010 at 10:44 AM

am getting confused with the conversion from metric cup to grams..do u have the ingredients in grams plz? bkoz am having different quantities when am converting to grams on google n i dont want the recipe to flop

Naailah
09/01/2010 at 10:58 AM

Also is the yogurt sweetened or unsweetened? thx

Laila 09/01/2010 at 1:13 PM

Well i never made it using grams but you know wither you are using metric or US cup the difference is only 5 grams of flour per cup the butter i usually measure it so its 4 oz . the yogurt i use is plain not flavored or sweetened .. just plain yogurt which is around 250 ml .. i hope this helps let me know how it turns out .. and stay in touch

Naailah
11/01/2010 at 6:58 PM

Assalam..its me again..hey just want to let u knw that cake was a flop..its did not turn out gud..it remained flat n was like a pudding :S i did everything as per ur recipe except that my loaf pan was smaller than yours so i put the batter in 2 smalls pans..n i did not have enough batter to cover each on top at the end..anyway i was very sad as i cooked it 4 my bfs birthday but finally could not bring it snif sniff

Laila 11/01/2010 at 7:17 PM

Hay Naailah im sorry it didnt turn out good . but if it remained flat it could be either something about your risings agents ( baking powder and baking soda) .. or about the temperature of the oven the pans should not effect the end result but it might take lesser to bake in smaller pan .. other than that there shouldnt be any issues with changing the pan type or size Zainab made it using a round pan and it turns out fine too Im sorry that it didnt turn out good for your Bf
