Setup Wizard for the IBM i Application
When you log on to the Command Center for the first time, a setup wizard guides you through the core setup required by the applications available in
the Command Center. After you complete the core setup, complete the setup wizard specific to the Servers application.
To complete the setup wizard for an IBM i server, you must first set up at least one Linux server as an access node. When selecting the packages to install,
you must include the File System for IBM i package. You will need the following server information for the IBM i server:
The server name
The host name
The data folder for the Commvault software
The CVD port that the access node CVD will use to talk to the IBM i server. (Note that this is different than the port used between the access node
CVD and the CommServe computer.)
The credentials that you use to access the server
The Linux server that you created as the access node

Package Installation on the IBM i Client

After you create the IBM i client, the Commvault package is automatically installed during the next backup or browse if the SSH services are active on
IBM i client machine and the access node, and if the SSH connectivity between the access node and the IBM i client machine exists.
Automatic installation on the IBM i client performs following tasks.
Starts SSH sessions from the access node to the IBM i client to copy CVINSTPKG.savf.
Extracts the required objects, and executes the installation command.
Creates the CVLIB and CVLIBOBJ program libraries when they do not exist.
Copies the required files into the CVLIB program library.
Creates the class object, job description, and job queue when the option to create the job queue is selected.
Copies the configuration files to the data directory.
Prepares the data directory.
Changes the subsystem description by adding the new routing entry and attaches the job queue, when the option to create the job queue is
selected.
Starts the Commvault services in the specified subsystem.
Sets the ownership for library, directories, and files to the specified user profile.
Deletes the Commvault temporary files and temporary libraries.
If the SSHD server is not installed on the IBM i client, then follow the manual steps to install the CVINSTPKG on the IBM i client. For more information, see
Installing the CVINSTPKG.savf Installation Package .
After the Commvault package is installed on the IBM i client, all updates that are installed on the access node are automatically pushed to all of the
connected IBM i clients during the first communication session between the access node and the IBM i client.

Installing VTL on the Linux Access Node
To use an IBM i VTL plan for backups, install VTL on the Linux access node.

Before You Begin

Prior to installing VTL for the IBM i File System Agent on the Linux access node, you must configure the following components:
Index Server Cloud for Hybrid File Store
Configure the Index Server Cloud .

Note: Add the NFS Index role while creating the Index Server Cloud.

Install the following Commvault packages on the Linux access node:

MediaAgent
File System
IBM i File System
Developer SDK – Python
Configuring the Hybrid File Store Cache
Storage Policy
Create a storage policy for your ObjectStore. This storage policy will be the main storage for your IBM i data. You can create an additional
copy of this data for redundancy.
MediaAgent with NFS Index capability

Procedure
1. On the Linux access node, change the directory to the Commvault Base folder:
[root@glass /root]# cd /opt/Commvault/Base
2. Start the installation script with the following command:
[root@glass Base]# ./cvibmivtl_setup

Note:
If there is no Internet access, you must download the cv_vtl.tgz package and the NFS-Ganesha package from the Download Center.

For instructions about installing the NFS-Ganesha package, see Getting Started with Hybrid File Store .

Use the option -f cv_vtl.tgz to install the VTL binaries.

Commvault services are stopped during the installation. Verify that there are no running jobs that use this server.

This command will verify that Ganesha and all required RPM packages are installed. If any of the RPM packages are missing, this command will
attempt to install them. In case the command failed to install any of the missing dependencies, the installation may abort and you will be required
to install those missing dependencies or provide a location where those RPM files are located.
The installation requires a kernel development package be present on the system, and the version of the running kernel and kernel development
package must be the same. The required package can be found on the OS installation DVD or on the Internet.
If you have the DVD with RPM for your kernel, add -r option with a path to the RPM location. For example:
[root@glass Base]# mount -o ro /dev/cdrom /media
[root@glass Base]# ./cvibmivtl_setup -r /media/Packages
One or more options [-r path] can be used as a search path for additional RPMs when required (for example, a DVD folder with RPM modules). This
option also can be used when there is no direct connection to the Internet, and required packages are downloaded manually.
The installation script will collect configuration information. The following information will be collected from the user:
Commvault login name and password (this user must be capable to create ObjectStore client)
Number of tape drives you want to have in the VTL
Number of tape slots in the VTL
10/25/2023 Commvault Systems Page 9 of 31
Size of the tapes. The size must be 16 GB or larger per tape.
The number of tapes to add. The maximum number of tapes is limited by a number of slots.
The 2 symbol barcode prefix, which consists of any combination of characters 0-9 and A-Z.
The client name for the Hybrid File Store. This is the client against which the actual data from all tapes will be stored.
The storage policy name for Hybrid File Store client. Storage policy where data from all tapes will be stored.
The MediaAgent name where Index Server is configured with NFS Index capabilities.
Local path for the Disk Library.
Once all information is collected, the command will download, compile and install the SCST driver on the acess node, configure and install the VTL
package, create the Hybrid File Store client, and then add the VTL Library to storage resources.
A tape storage with the following naming format is created:
access_node_host_name-IBMVTL
An IBM i VTL plan with the following naming format is created:
access_node_host_name-Plan
3. If FC network zoning is not configured, configure FC network zoning to allow access to the VTL Server FC Target from IBM i servers.

Results
The VTL tape storage appears in the Tape page. (From the navigation pane, go to Storage >Tape.)

IBM i File System Backups
Back up data that resides on your IBM i computer.
You can run backups immediately or configure a plan that includes a schedule.

Full Backup
Backups for any client start with a full backup. For Agents that support non-full backups, the full backup becomes a baseline to which subsequent backup
types are applied. For example, if an agent supports incremental backups, a full backup must be performed before an incremental backup can be
initiated.

Incremental Backup
An incremental backup contains only data that is new or has changed since the last backup, regardless of the type. On average, incremental backups use
less media and place less of a burden on resources than full backups.

Performing an IBM i 1-Touch Disaster Recovery Operation
You can recover to the same system or duplicate the system.

Note: If you duplicate the system, to avoid network issues on the source system, verify that the TCP/IP configuration is updated.

The operation creates a job that copies the DVD images and restores the data.
The software starts the DVD copy job (the status shows running) and places the restore job in a suspended state.
When the DVD copy job completes, the software sends an email notification. Use the DVD images to restore the minimum OS by following the IBM
manual, and then restore the Commvault libraries.

Note: The Virtual Image files created during the DR process are in UDF format. You can use any software to burn the physical DVD media that
supports UDF image format. The typical number of DVDs is between 5 to 7. The actual number depends on your system size.

After you restore the operating system and network, go to the CommCell Console and resume the suspended job.
For more information about restoring to a new client, see Adding an Additional IBM i Server .

Before You Begin

Verify and update the TCP/IP configuration.

Note: If the TCP/IP configuration changes, you must stop and restart the Commvault services.

Verify that the IASPs are properly configured.

Procedure
1. From the navigation pane, click Protect > Servers > IBM_i_Server.
2. In the upper-right, click Disaster Recovery.
The Disaster Recovery page appears.
3. From the Destination client list, choose the destination IBM i server for the restore.
4. From the User data backupset list, choose the backup set (for user data) of the source IBM i server.
5. From the DR backup job to recover list, choose a DR backup performed on the source IBM i server.
6. From the Client to restore DVD images list, choose the file system server to restore the DVD images.
The file system client computer can be a Linux access node, IHOST, or VIOS.
7. In the Destination path to store DVD images box, enter the path for storing the DVD images.

Note: The client computer must have enough disk space to store the DVDs that the software creates as part of the recovery operation. If there
is not enough disk space, then the job aborts and the DVDs become invalid.

8. In the Copy precedence for restore jobs list, enter the number of the copy that you want to restore.
To pick the primary copy, enter 0.
9. To write the list of objects restored to an output file, enter the path to the physical file object.
For example, library_name/physical_file_name.
10. To restore the spooled data file, select the Restore SPLFTDA check box.
11. Click Submit.
