BARI MILLS PROCEDURE FOR LEGAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

1.0 PURPOSE:

M.Y. M.Y. BARI MILLS Environmental Policy makes a commitment to meet or


exceed applicable Environmental legislation, regulations and company requirements.
This procedure describes the process M.Y. M.Y. BARI MILLS has developed and
implemented to identify and have access to legal and other environmental
requirements and communicate these requirements to those with compliance
responsibility.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure applies throughout M.Y. M.Y. BARI MILLS operational activities.

3.0 DEFINITIONS:

3.1 Environmental aspect


Element of organization’s activities or products or services that can interact
with the environment.

3.2 Environmental impact


Any change to the environment whether adverse or beneficial, wholly or
partially resulting from an organization’s environmental aspects.

3.3 Environmental objective


Overall environmental goal, consistent with the environmental policy that an
organization sets itself to achieve.

3.4 Environmental performance


Measurable results of an organization’s management of its environmental
aspects.

3.5 Environmental target


Detailed performance requirement, applicable to the organization or parts
thereof, that’s arises from the environmental objectives and that needs to be
set and met in order to achieve those objectives.

3.6 Interested party


Person or group concerned with or affected by the environmental performance
of an organization.

3.7 Prevention of pollution


Use of processes, practices, techniques, materials, products, services or energy
to avoid reduce or control (separately or in combination) the creation,
emission or discharge of any type of pollutant or waste in order to reduce
adverse environmental impacts.

3.8 Abnormal Activities

Not part of day-to-day activities such as maintenance of scrubbers and


strainers at pump stations, sludge removal from storage tanks etc.

3.9 Emergency situations


Unscheduled event or incident, which has or could result in uncontrolled
releases to the environment in quantities that could cause a significant impact
(e.g. rupture of fuel oil storage tank or major spillage).

3.10 Historic operations


The environmental impacts associated with operations in the past e.g.
contaminated soils from illegal tapping of the pipeline.

3.11 Routine activities


Day to day activities giving releases to the environment, Health and Safety
(Inputs and outputs).

3.12 Physical Controls


Technical and engineering measures adopted to mitigate a potential
environmental, health and safety impact e.g., use of abatement technologies,
installation of secondary containment and alarm systems.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Compliance / EHS Department is responsible for providing a service to, relevant
asset operations across the company and identifying the impact of existing, new or
revised legal and other requirements.

5.0 PROCEDURE:

The Compliance/EHS Department obtains and provides Environmental updates or


Advices to the Management on the legal perspective on a regular basis.

5.1 Master File


All Environmental, Health & Safety and legal requirements will be incorporated into
a Legal Compliance. This will be reviewed on a monthly basis against Legislative and
Regulatory updates, thus ensuring that the requirement is up to date with the latest
information at all times. These records are available for access by the appropriate
personnel.

5.2 Assurances
The Environmental Advisor will ensure that:
 The legal compliance data is accessible to those who require it.
 On a monthly basis, changes to environmental regulations and legislation
requirements are tracked and implemented appropriately, within the designated
area of responsibility.

5.3. COMMUNICATIONS OF NEW AND REVISED REGULATIONS AND LEGISLATION


The Compliance / EHS Team Leader at Environmental/Operations meetings will
communicate changes to environmental requirements.

5.4. REVIEWS REQUIRED BY CHANGES TO REGULATIONS AND LEGISLATION


Activities that will require review on regular basis, due to changes to the Legal
Compliance Data includes;

 Existing procedures
 Monitoring of textile effluent and sludge
 Monitoring of air stack and emissions
 The requirement for new procedures
 The Aspects and Impacts Study
 The Monitoring and Reporting Matrix
 Training and Awareness schedule.
