It was as though even in this Nought’s profound,

Even in this ultimate dissolution's core

There lurked an unremembering entity,

Survivor of a slain and buried past

Condemned to resume the effort and the pang,

Reviving in another frustrate world.

ऐसे ही मानों इस घोर नकारता की गहनता में ,

इस चरम-विलय के मममस्थल में ,
एक विस्तत
ृ सत्ता चुपचाप छिपी चचपकी थी,
जो एक छनहत और दफ़नाये अतीत से बच छनकली थी
और यह पुनः श्रम करने और त्रास सहने को दण्डित थी,
एक और कुण्डित संसार में पन
ु जीिन-यापन हहत बाध्य थी।

An unshaped consciousness desired light

And a blank prescience yearned towards distant change.

एक अनगढ़ चेतना में प्रकाश की कामना जाग उठी

और एक कोरे पि
ू ब
म ोध ने दरू स्थ पररितमन की लालसा की।

As if a childlike finger laid on a cheek

Reminded of the endless need in things

The heedless Mother of the universe,

An infant longing clutched the sombre Vast.

मानो एक शशशुित ्-अंगुली ने कपोल स्पशम कर

विश्ि कीलापरिाह जगन्माता को,
िस्तुओं में सोयी अनचगनत आिश्यकताओं की याद हदला दी हो,
और उस काली उदासीन विशालता को एक नन्हीं ललक ने धर शलया।
Insensibly somewhere a breach began:

A long lone line of hesitating hue

Like a vague smile tempting a desert heart

Troubled the far rim of life's obscure sleep.

अनजाने ही कहीं एक दरार आरम्भ हो गयीः

झििकते रं गों की एक अकेली दीघम रे खा-सी
एक धूशमल ण्स्मत समान जो एक शुष्क ह्रदय को लुभा रही थी,
जैसे इसने जीिन की अंधेरी नींद के सुदरू तट को िे ड़ हदया हो।

Arrived from the other side of boundlessness

An eye of deity pierced through the dumb deeps;

A scout in a reconnaissance from the sun,

It seemed amid a heavy cosmic rest,

The torpor of a sick and weary world,

To seek for a spirit sole and desolate

Too fallen to recollect forgotten bliss.

असीमता के दस
ू रे तट से िहां आ पहुंची
एक दे िदण्ृ ष्ट ण्जसने मूक गहनताओं के अन्तर में िांका;
यह सूयद
म े ि का एक सिेक्षणकारी बालचर,
उसे ऐसा लगा था मानों विश्ि के तामशसक विश्राम के मध्य
एक रोचगणी और थककत जगती की बेसुधी में,
िह खोजने आया हो एक एकाकी विषडण आत्म सत्ता को
जो इतनी पछतता थी कक विस्मत
ृ सुख को याद करने में असमथम थी।

Intervening in a mindless universe,

Its message crept through the reluctant hush

Calling the adventure of consciousness and joy

And, conquering Nature's disillusioned breast,

Compelled renewed consent to see and feel.

एक मनविहीन विश्ि में हस्तक्षेप कर

इसका सन्दे शा अछनच्िुक नीरिता में धीरे से सरका
ण्जसने चेतना और हषोल्लास की साहसी यात्रा हहत पुकारा
और जड़-प्रकृछत का मोह भंग कर उसे जीत शलया,
एक बार किर से दे खने और अनुभि की स्िीकृछत हहत वििश ककया।

A thought was sown in the unsounded Void,

A sense was born within the darkness' depths,

A memory quivered in the heart of Time

As if a soul long dead were moved to live:

But the oblivion that succeeds the fall,

Had blotted the crowded tablets of the past,

And all that was destroyed must be rebuilt

And old experience laboured out once more.

उस शब्दहीन महाशन्
ू य में एक बीज-विचार बो हदया गया;
उस अन्धकार की गहनताओं के अन्तर में एक संिेदन जन्मा,
त्रत्रकालदे ि के अन्तर में एक स्मछृ त लहराई
जैसे कक दीघमकाल से मत
ृ एक अन्तरात्मा जीने को संचररत हो उठी;
ककन्तु उस पतन के बाद आयी विस्मछृ त ने,
अतीत की स्मछृ तयों से भरी पट्हटयां पोंि िाली थीं,
पर अब जो सब नष्ट हो चुका था उसे पुनः रचना होगा
और पुराना अनुभि एक बार किर पररश्रम में जुट गया।

All can be done if the God-touch is there.

जहां भागित स्पशम होता है िहां समस्त असाध्य कायम शसद्ध हो जाते हें ।

A hope stole in that hardly dared to be

Amid the Night's forlorn indifference.

उसमें एक आशा जाग उठी जो अछत कहठनाई से व्यक्त होने का साहस

उस काली अंधरात्रत्र की दयनीय उदासीनता में जुटा पायी थी।
