Problem Set 1

Farm Physics (Agritect 215)

Deadline: November 10, 2022 @ 5:00pm

General Instructions: Answer the following items as instructed.

Show your complete solutions.

PROBLEM 1
The displacement versus time for a certain particle moving along
the x axis is shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1

Find the average velocity in the time intervals.

a. 0 to 2s

b. 0 to 4 s

c. 2s to 4s

d. 4s to 7s

e. 0 to 8s
PROBLEM 2.

The farmer walks along the x varies in time according to the

expression 𝑥 = 3𝑡 2 + 2𝑡 − 1, where x is meters and t is in seconds.

Solve the following:

a. Evaluate the position of farmer at t=3s and t=5s;

b. Compute the average velocity of the farmer given the time

interval from t=3s to t=5s.

c. Evaluate the limit of ∆𝑥/∆𝑡 as ∆𝑡 approaches zero to find the

velocity at t=3.00s.
PROBLEM 3
A rabbit runs across a parking lot according to the expression 𝑥 =
−0.3𝑡 2 + 7.2𝑡 + 28, where x is meters and t is in seconds.

Solve the following:

a. Evaluate the position of the rabbit given the following time
intervals:

i. 0S to 1s

ii. 1s to 2s

iii. 3s to 4s

iv. 4s to 5s

b. In item a, compute the average velocity given the time

intervals.

c. Compute the instantaneous velocity of the following time t:

i. 1s

ii. 2s

iii. 4s

iv. 5s

d. In item c, discuss the implications of the computed

instantaneous velocity.
