(a) What would be the wavelength of the 2nd line in the Balmer series in the emission spectra of
the H atom? [RH=109678 cm-1]. In which range of the electromagnetic spectrum does it fall?

a) NaCl and KCl crystallize in a similar pattern. However, X-ray diffraction study reveals the
two crystals to be FCC and SCC respectively – why? (4)

Derive Bragg‟s equation. Why X-ray is suitable for measurement of inter planer distance of
solid? (4)
b) Calculate the density of elemental silver that crystallizes in a FCC lattice with unit cell
length of 4.086 Å. Given, relative atomic mass of silver is 107.88. (2)
