Abstract

With the advent of computer science and information technology all the fields are being
revolutionized. The computers have enabled the man to solve complex problems and
large number of calculations in a very small time. Computers can be used to facilitate
other sciences and hence decreasing the large amount of work and calculations done by
the students and research workers.

Genetic Framework is a framework with set of tools which can be used to decrease the
complex calculations done by the students and research workers of biochemistry and
genetic engineering. It is a user friendly tool which provides set of features that the
students and research workers of biochemistry will find helpful for them. It has ability to
support following processes.

 DNA Digestion
 DNA melting point calculation
 Protein Digestion
 Translation
 Reverse Translation
 Hydrophobicity plots
 Dot Plots
 Protein structure analysis

Genetic Framework consists of a database of almost 400 DNA restriction enzymes. All
the processes are supported by the two dimensional graphical view. The results are easily
portable as the software allows to save the results in formats
like .txt, .htm, .bmp, .gif , .jpeg etc.

The software is built in .Net technology with C# as a development language. The

database engine used is Microsoft SQL server. The software incorporates a set of features
which make it more viable to be used by the students and research workers of
biochemistry and genetic engineering. It stores several Hydrophobicity values for amino
acids predicted by different scientists and it draws Hydrophobicity plots based upon these
values. User can add new values to the database and can then view plot based on these
new values. This dynamic property ensures the future updation .

The software is further being updated and the processes being simulated are
