Dear editor,

I am writing to express my opinion about a new rule which will allow students to go on
school trips only if they have good grades. However, some teachers, students and parents
are against this rule. Others believe that this is a good idea.

It is true that there are advantages having this new rule. Firstly, students will work harder so
they can go on school trips. This can result good grades but also will benefit more from doing
extra work at home.

As I see it, having this new rule has many disadvantages. For a start, students won’t be able
to learn new things out of school and gain valuable experience, as the most trips are
educational. In addition, this rule is against policy and students are entitled at least two to
school trips. Surely there are students with bad grades but this is not fair against them and
Pacific High School should find other ways to punish them.

In conclusion, I believe that in spite of some students bad grades, you shouldn’t announce
this new rule because school trips are beneficial for students as they can learn a great deal
from them.

Yours faithfully,

Alex
