Falls Prevention Strategies

Strategy How this will minimise risk

Strategy 1
Home Modifications Placing railing and grab rails in toilets and
stairways, enhancing brightness in corridors and
entryways, reducing chaos, and fixing unsecured
carpets, for instance, may all contribute to a
friendlier home environment. The chance of
unintentional falling diminishes as surrounding
threats are reduced.

Strategy 2
Use of assistive devices such as Wheelchair, Per Dauber (2017), assistive devices are used by
Cane, Walker etc. people who struggle with poor balance,
discomfort, weakness, fatigue and joint instability.
Assistive devices off load full or partial weight of a
lower extremity. By using an assistive device it
could help improve the patient's gait and balance
and prevent further falls.

Strategy 3
Vision Reports/ observed difficulty seeing- objects/ signs/
finding way around.
Get a dilated eye exam at least once a year to
reduce the risk of irreversible vision loss and
update glasses if needed.

Strategy 4
Activities of Daily Living (A.D.L’s) Frequent movement and physical action,
particularly ones focusing on equilibrium,
endurance, and mobility, can improve
neuromuscular function and integration, both of
which are necessary for reducing injuries related
to fall. Meditation, the practice of yoga, and
aerobics are examples of movement programmes
that may assist people enhance their coordination
and lower their chance of tripping. Observed
