Basic knowledge

An adjective may come before a noun and be an element of the nominal group. This is
called the attributive use of the adjective.

An attributive adjective usually comes before the noun, even if it is part of a series:

They live in a nice old house.

The adjective may also be separated from the noun by a verb. This is called the
predicative use of the adjective.

A predicative adjective comes after the noun and is introduced by a verb:

The weather is fine today.

Adjectives are always invariable:

Ken is wearing a black jacket and grey trousers. His clothes are nice. He's a good boy. He
reads good books.

The verb that introduces a predicative adjective may be left out :

All the people (who were) present were pleased.

Adjective that is determined by a complement:

He was a man (who is) full of ideas.

Adjective with the prefix a- (alive, alone, asleep ,awake, etc):

We saw the picture of a girl (who was) asleep.

Adjective describing a compound pronoun like something, anything, nothing:

I'll show you something new.

Expertise

In a series of attributive adjectives, the one which comes the nearest to the noun is the
one that describes the most important quality.

The adjective which describes the least objective quality (corresponding to the most personal
opinion) is the furthest away:

He is a very kind, white-haired, old gentleman.

The objective qualities old and white-haired, are near gentleman. Kind is the furthest away
because 'kind' is a subjective quality.
