Basic knowledge

Only the second or last part of a compound noun is in the plural:

railway-stations,

bus-drivers,

grown-ups,

forget-me-nots, etc.

Exceptions : noun + preposition (the noun is in the plural):

passers-by,

lookers-on, etc.

Man or woman as first part of a compound noun (both parts are in the plural):

women-candidates,

men-servants, etc.
