What is G20?

The Group of Twenty (G20) is a prominent international forum for economic cooperation that
plays a critical role in shaping and enhancing global governance and architecture on various
global issues. The G20 comprises 19 countries and the European Union, representing about
two-thirds of the world population, over 75% of global trade, and approximately 85% of global
GDP. India will assume the G20 Presidency from December 2022 to November 2023, and it has
invited several countries and international organizations to participate.

Initially established in 1999 as a platform for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to
discuss global economic and financial issues, the G20 has since expanded its agenda to include
areas such as sustainable development, climate change, health, agriculture, energy, and anti-
corruption. The G20 Summit is held annually, with the Presidency rotating amongst its members.
The G20 consists of two parallel tracks, namely, the Finance Track and the Sherpa Track.

What is Y20?
Youth 20 (Y20) India is the official youth engagement group of the G20. It serves as a platform
for young people to express their ideas and vision on the G20's priorities. As a group, it aims to
amplify the voices of young people and ensure their perspectives are included in global decision-
making processes. Y20 India brings together a diverse range of youth leaders from across the
country, representing various sectors and industries. Through a series of consultations,
dialogues, and events, Y20 India provides an opportunity for young people to engage with
policymakers, business leaders, and civil society organizations to shape the future of the global
economy.

What is Y20 Chaupals?

Youth20 (Y20) organizes small gatherings called Y20 Chaupals to create awareness about Y20
and G20 and seek ideas from young people on the issues of Y20. These Chaupals typically have
50 to 100 participants and are held on recognized institution campuses, hostels, fitness centers,
badminton academies, public places, and panchayat bhavans in villages. The aim is to provide a
platform for young people to share their thoughts and ideas on the G20 priorities and help shape
the policy recommendations that are submitted to G20 leaders.

By involving young people in the discussions and decision-making processes, Y20 India hopes
to ensure a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
