Important notes

The PDC cable set front must only be fitted if the vehicle has merely been equipped with
wiring harness stage 1. If proceeding from wiring harness stage 2, this cable set has already
been pre-fitted (see also relevant information in EPC).

Target Group
Target group for these installation instructions are technical personnel trained on BMW
vehicles, who have special knowledge of body electronics.

Tasks:
Carry out all maintenance, repair and installation work on BMW vehicles on own authority.
All operations should be carried out with the aid of the current BMW
- repair instruction manuals
- circuit diagrams
in a logical sequence using the prescribed tools (special tools) whilst observing the applicable
health and safety regulations.

Do not on any account work with so-called "Scotchlock quick connectors" as these can
trigger faults in the on-board electronics.

Tightening torques for screw connections should be observed. Please refer to the parts
information system (TIS) for the required tightening torques.

When installing cables, take care to see that they do not become kinked or damaged,
otherwise faults may occur which can only be localised later by extensive reworking. Costs
arising in this connection will not be reimbursed by BMW.

Assembly notes
If specified pins or spaces are already assigned, bridges, double crimpings or parallel
connections will have to be made.

The coding instruction described in Chapter 10 must be followed without exception.

Remove screws (1) and place air supply unit (2)

to one side.

5. Install front cable set (only vehicles without pre-fitted cable set)

The PDC cable set for the front must only be

fitted if the vehicle has merely been equipped
2 with wiring harness stage 1. As from wiring

harness stage 2, this cable set has already been
pre-fitted (see also relevant information in the
EPC).

Clip in branch cable E (1) into the notch (2) at

the rear closing panel.

Insert branch cable F (1), cable colour

brown/black, into the joint connector X493 (2).

Install cable set in the side skirt on the right

along the standard wiring harness to the front.

Unpin connectors (1, 2 and 3) from the light

module (4).
2 Decouple connector (2) X10117 (54-pole, black).
1 Insert branch cable I, cable colour
white/grey/yellow, in Pin 36.

If Pin 36 at connector X10117 is already
assigned, connect branch cable I by means of
4 mini connector.

Unpin connector (1) X10461 (32-pole, white) from

fuse box (2) and decouple it. Insert branch cable
3 B (3), cable colour green/brown, in Pin 32.

Insert 5 Amp fuse at plug-in place F6.

Make a break-through Ø 8 mm to the E-box in

the area (2) shown.
Install branch cables A3 and A4 (1), (for cable
colours see connection overview, cable sets),
2 through the drillhole into the E-box.

Remove grommet (1) and drill through with twist

drill Ø 8 mm.
Lead branch cables A3 and A4 (2) through the
grommet and install them along the standard
wiring harness to the front up to below the
headlamp

Install branch cables A1, A2 and H behind the

centre console on the left hand side of the
2 vehicle.
Install branch cables C1 and C2 (2) to connector
X1869 in the centre console.
Decouple connector X1869.
Insert branch cable C1, cable colour
1 brown/blue/yellow, in Pin 9.
Insert branch cable C2, cable colour
brown/white/yellow, in Pin 8.

2 in the signalling transmitter (2) at Pin 1.

5. Install front cable set (only vehicles without pre-fitted cable set)

Drill through seal (2) with twist drill Ø 8 mm.

Install branch cables (1) A1 and A2 through the
2 drillhole into the engine compartment and along
the standard wiring harness towards the front up
to below the headlamp.

Seal off the bore hole with bodywork sealing

1 compound.

6. Install PDC transducers, rear

Remove grommet (1).

In order to avoid making pressure points or

scratches on the bumper trim panel, mask off the
front side over a large area in the cutting area
and work on a soft supporting surface (blanket
or similar).

2 Cut out the pre-stamped parts (1) in the bumper

trim panel (2) on left and right with an air saw.
Deburr holes with a file.

trim panel (2).

Put on the supports from behind and engage
them.

Press in the PDC transducers (1) for rear left and

right into the supports (2) and engage them.

Clip cable set b (1), part-piece rear, into the

supports (2) and plug on the connectors (3).

Reassemble rear bumper trim panel. When doing

1 2 1 so, thread the 18-pole connector J through the
drill hole.

7. Install PDC transducers, front

In order to avoid making pressure points or

Cut out the pre-stamped parts (1) in the bumper

trim panel (2) on left and right with an air saw.

Install branch cables A1 to A4 to the relevant

connection point.

In vehicles which have the cable set pre-

fitted, undo the tied-back branch cables and
install them to the relevant connection points.

Reassemble front bumper trim panel. When

doing so, install branch cables (1 and 2) through
1 the drill holes.

Insert PDC transducers, centre, (1) in the

supports (2). Plug in connectors (3) and insert
unit in the drill hole (4).

8. Connect cable set

Connect together branch cables J (2) and E (1),

connector X11335.

9. Finalising operations

Install switch centre (1) supplied with the

installation kit.

1 Cover up switches for non-fitted optional

equipment by sticking on the supplied caps.

- Fasten all plug-in connectors again.

HDC DSC PDC RDC - Re-assemble vehicle in the reverse sequence of
assembly.
- Carry out short test.
