SECTION 03200 Concrete Reinforcement
SECTION 03200 Concrete Reinforcement
SECTION 03200
CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Provide concrete reinforcing steel bars, welded steel wires, fabric, fabricated
steel bar or rod mats for cast-in-place concrete as indicated or noted on the
Contract Drawing and hereinafter specified and as needed for a complete
and proper installation.
B. Related Work:
A. Codes: Uniform Building Code with the City 1992 Amendments "Standard
Specifications for Public Works Construction" 1991 Edition and 1992
Supplement.
C. Labor: Use adequate numbers of skilled laborers who are thoroughly trained
and experienced in the necessary crafts and who are completely familiar with
the specified requirements and the methods needed for proper performance
of the work of this Section.
D. Tests and Inspections: Tests shall be performed before the delivery of steel
to the job-site. Steel not meeting Specifications shall not be shipped to the
job-site.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
B. Storage: Unload and store reinforcing bars on timber skids while awaiting
use where directed by the City Engineer or the Consultant under cover and
away from damp surfaces to prevent rusting and fouling with dirt, grease and
other bond-breaking coatings.
2.1 MATERIALS
A. Reinforcing Bars: Billet Steel, ASTM A615, grades as called for on the
Contract Drawings.
B. Steel Wire:
D. Welding Electrodes:
1. Comply with AWS A5.1, low hydrogen, E70 Series having a minimum
yield point of 60,000 psi.
2.2 FABRICATION
A. General:
6. No bar shall receive more than one bend at any single location for any
reason.
2. Remove oil, grease, paint and any other coating that would reduce
bond.
Examine the areas and conditions under which work of this Section will be
performed. Correct conditions detrimental to timely and proper completion of the
Work. Do not proceed until detrimental conditions are corrected.
3.2 INSTALLATION
1. Comply with the specified standards for detail and method of placing
reinforcement and supports, except as may be modified herein.
2. Clean reinforcement to remove loose rust and mill scale, earth, and
other materials which reduce or destroy bond with concrete.
6. Arrange, space, and securely tie bars and bar supports together with
the specified tie wire.
7. Set wire ties so twisted ends are directed away from exposed
concrete surfaces.
D. Do not place reinforcing bars more than 2" beyond last leg of any continuous
bar support.
E. Do not use supports as bases for runways for concrete conveying equipment
and similar construction loads.
3.3 SPLICES
A. Lap Splices:
B. Splice Devices:
C. Welding:
3.4 TESTING
A. Samples:
B. Tests:
1. Where samples are taken from bundles as delivered from the mill,
with the bundles identified as to heat number, and provided mill
analyses accompany the report, then one tensile test and one bend
test will be made from a specimen of each ten tons or fraction thereof
of each size of reinforcement steel.
