1. Use wire bar type supports complying with CRSI recommendations,

unless otherwise shown on the Contract Drawings.

2. Do not use wood, brick, or other non-complying material.

3. For slabs on grade, use supports with sand plates or horizontal

runners where base material will not support chair legs.

4. For exposed-to-view completed concrete surfaces, where legs of

supports are in contact with forms, provide supports with either hot-dip
galvanized or plastic-protected legs. Contractor’s selection subject to
the City Engineer’s approval.

2.2 FABRICATION

dimensions, with fabrication tolerances complying with the CRSI
Manual.

2. In case of fabricating errors, do not straighten or rebend reinforcement

in a manner that will weaken or injure the material.
3. Reinforcement with any of the following defects will not be acceptable.

a. Bar lengths, depths, and/or bends exceeding the specified

c. Bars with reduced cross-section due to excessive rusting or

other cause.

4. Weld reinforcing bars in accordance with AWS D1-4.

5. Shop bend #5 bars and larger to shapes indicated or required. Field

6. No bar shall receive more than one bend at any single location for any
reason.

B. Cleaning: Before placing and again before concrete is placed.

1. Remove all loose mill scale and rust.

2. Remove oil, grease, paint and any other coating that would reduce
bond.

PART THREE - EXECUTION

3.1 SURFACE CONDITIONS

Examine the areas and conditions under which work of this Section will be
performed. Correct conditions detrimental to timely and proper completion of the
Work. Do not proceed until detrimental conditions are corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

d. “Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction" as
applicable to Street Work

2. Clean reinforcement to remove loose rust and mill scale, earth, and
other materials which reduce or destroy bond with concrete.

3. Position, support, and secure reinforcement against displacement by

formwork, construction, and concrete placing operations.

4. Locate and support reinforcement by metal chairs, runners, bolsters,

spacers, and hangers, as required.

5. Place reinforcement to obtain minimum coverage for concrete

protection, noted in Section 7.7 of the ACI 318 Building Code.
