KNS 4533 CONCRET TECHNOLOGY

INDIVIDUAL ASIGNMENT

Concrete are exposed to various external conditions during its service life. Some of these
conditions are hazardous and detrimental to the durability of the concrete. It can cause
the development of cracks, spalling and various signs of deterioration. The effects of
these symptoms can vary from harmless to dangerous. For example, a plastic shrinkage
developing few days after casting can be considered harmless.
These exposures affect the durability of concrete and cause the structure to deteriorate.
Your assignment is to propose the remedial treatment for the damaged sections. First,
you need to select a damaged section [4 marks], identify the root cause [8 marks] and
propose a practical treatment [8 marks]. In order to have different sections done by
students, you need to declare in class what sections you will be doing before you move to
the root cause and treatment.
Prepare your answer using powerpoint file ready for presentation. The number of slides
is limited to 20 slides including the title slide.
