4 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE

STRUCTURE AND
CONNECTIONS
CONNECTIONS
4.1 LOADS
For weights and loads, refer to the OUTLINE plan of the corresponding classifier.

4.2 CALCULATION PRINCIPLES

4.2.1 To guard against vibration problems to the utmost and ensure stability, we recommend
that the classifier is attached on a correctly dimensioned support.

4.2.2 The machine's support structure - beams, columns, assemblies - must be as rigid as
possible, the profiles and connections being determined accordingly.

4.2.3 The deflections induced under each of the classifier's feet by the machine's reactions
may not differ by more than +/- 2 % while, of course, complying with the limits imposed.
It is essential that the installation locations all have the same deflection under static
and dynamic load. There must be equirigidity.
This aspect must be complied with over the entire floor between the columns, and not
just on the classifier's support chassis.

4.2.4 The building will be braced in both horizontal and vertical planes by large-sized parts. If
this is not possible, the assemblies will be made as rigid as possible by corner stiffeners
so as to be as close as possible to perfect fitting conditions at the joins between
profiles. It is important to respect this principle and mainly in the case of bolted
assemblies.
Advantage should always be taken of opportunities offered to brace the different planes
of the structure to the utmost.

4.2.5 The vertical and horizontal deflections of the framing calculated under all the operating
loads will be less that those given below. Additional deflections resulting from the
vibrations calculation will be reduced to the minimum.

Limit values of deflections for vertical loads

Referred to as:

• δ1 Variation of the deflection of the beam due to permanent loads immediately after
loading (Structure dead weight, empty machines, etc.).

• δ2 Variation of the deflection of the beam due to variable loads increased by any
deformation over time, due to permanent loads (floor overload, machine overload,
concrete creep, deformations of assemblies, etc.).

• δMax = aδ1 +a δ2

• L = beam span or 2 times length of cantilever.

The following limits are imposed:

Max = L / 500
2: L / 600

Buckling limit values for horizontal loads

Known as:

• h= height of upright or floor

• ho = total height of structure

Permissible limits are:

• between each floor: h / 300

• for the whole structure: ho / 500

4.2.6 It is also necessary to include, in the calculation and dimensioning of the building's
overall framing, all the static and dynamic loads produced by any neighbouring machine
and taken up on the same structure as the classifier.
It is very important not to attach any other equipment or structure to the classifier or
its support. (e.g.: among other things, avoid placing the feed airslide supports on the
classifier or its support). The classifier must be separated from all external and
neighbouring equipment and structures.
In general, all the classifier's connecting pipes must be flexible to avoid transmission of
vibrations to the utmost. This comment refers in particular to the air extraction pipe to
the filter, the fines chamber outlet pipe, the reject collection and feed to the inlet
chutes.

4.2.7 It is advisable to dimension the framing so that its own frequency is significantly
different from the machine's oscillation frequency (see attached figure and table). The
structure's frequency must be < f1 and > f2.

Known as:

• f1 of the structure = exciter frequency of the classifier's different parts min / va

• f2 of the structure = exciter frequency of the classifier's different parts max / va
• η= synchronisation = exciter frequency / own frequency = f / fo
• Vp = transmission factor

For single shafts, the impeller rotates at the same speed as the classifier's cage, but for twin
shafts, the impeller is driven separately at another speed. Standard equipment is single shaft.

4.2.8 For the building in which the classifier is to be installed, the design, study,
implementation are the customer's or end user's responsibility. This also applies for
installation in an existing structure which must be checked and possibly reinforced.

Magotteaux assumes no responsibility other than that concerning the classifier directly.
