Brick Works
Bricks are made of different materials and manufactured
by different methods, and they can be used in many ways
in the construction process.
All of these factors will influence the price of the
masonry, but the main factors affecting the measurement
of brick masonry are
• Size of the brick units.
• Size of the joints between bricks.
• Wall thickness.
• Pattern of brick bond utilized.

Brick Works
Bricks are available in a great number of sizes, but the
Common Brick Manufacturers Association has adopted
a standard size with the nominal dimensions of 60 mm
by 100 mm by 200 mm.
Brick Works
Measuring Notes: Masonry
Generally
Measure all quantities “net in place” and do not deduct for
openings that are less than 1 square meter.
Separately measure masonry work that is circular on plan.
Masonry work includes scaffolding and hoisting.
Measure expansion joints or control joints in masonry in
linear meters.
Specify any required joint filler material in the description of
the joint system.

Brick Works
Measuring Notes: Masonry
Generally
• Separately measure coloured mortar where it is required.
• Specify the type of material involved; not only can the material
cost vary, but also the installation cost can vary with different
types of material.
Brick Works
Bricks shall be measured in units of 1000 bricks
Measured in m2 (by area) if thickness <25 cm.

Plastering
Internal Plaster:
Engineering measurement by area (m2).
All openings with area ≥ 1 m2 are deducted.
Openings with area < 1 m2 are not deducted.
Openings sides are not added.
Inclined slabs are calculated based on their horizontal
projection.
