MLA FORMATTING

● Entire paper:
○ Double-spaced
○ One-inch margins
○ Times New Roman, 12-point (Cambria, Georgia,
Garamond also generally acceptable) – NEVER Arial or
Calibri

● Top matter, left-aligned:


○ Your Name
○ Professor’s Name
○ Subject and Course Number (e.g. English 120,
Anthropology 381)
■ Not “College Composition,” “Indigenous Peoples of
the Arctic”
■ Spell out the Subject (i.e., not ENG, ENGL, ANTH)
○ Date formatted as such: [Day] [Month] [Year]
■ No commas
■ Spell out month
● Title:
○ Hit enter ONCE after your top matter
○ Center it
○ Font should match the rest of the paper – no bold, italic,
underline, or size change
○ Hit enter ONCE after your title and begin your paper
● Double-click on the very top of the paper to access the header
○ [Last Name] [Page number]
○ Make sure the font matches the rest of the paper
