Duration You will have 8 weeks to complete this task. Each music lesson will be dedicated
to aspects of the task such as learning the keyboard arrangements, composing
on Noteflight or developing your listening skills.

Nature of task This task will involve learning three Film Music keyboard arrangements in class
and recording one of the pieces for submission to Canvas. Students will also
compose a short piece to depict a villain using Noteflight. A listening test will
cover information from the Film Music modules on Canvas.
In this task, you will be demonstrating your skills on keyboard. You will also be
demonstrating your knowledge and understanding of the concepts of music and
how they are used by composers in Film Music.

Task Task 3 consists of three parts:
Specifications
Performance (15% total): Students will perform and record the melody (right hand) and
accompaniment (left hand) of one Film Music arrangement on the keyboard, with both hands played
simultaneously (together). Three film soundtrack arrangements will be learnt via the Canvas modules
during class, and students must select one to record for the assessment. The video recording should be
submitted to the Year 8 Music Notifications course page as a media upload. The performance will be
marked out of 15.
Students will choose one piece from the following options.
-Transformers theme (Transformers)
-The Imperial March (Star Wars)
-Married Life (Up)

Composition (15% total): Using the scaffold provided on Noteflight, students will compose a villain
theme which is to be a minimum of 16 bars. The composition is to be exported as a PDF and uploaded
to the Year 8 Music Notifications course page as a single file.

Listening Quiz (20% total): Students will complete an online listening quiz consisting of multiple-choice
questions relating to what they have learned this semester. Students will be required to respond to a
variety of recorded musical excerpts, interpret music notation and demonstrate an understanding of
the features of Film Music in relation to the concepts of music.

Instructions The keyboard performance should be uploaded to Canvas on the due date by 3:30pm.
The composition should be uploaded to Canvas on the due date by 3:30pm.
The listening test will be conducted in class via Canvas. You must be wearing headphones during the
listening test. See the schedule below.
