Dear Parents and Students

We are committed to protecting our environment by reducing the amount of waste that we produce,
and we invite you to partner with us in realizing this mission.

Paper Consumption: Each year Burshells Commercial College uses more than 1,500 pieces of paper per
student. If all that paper was placed in our multipurpose hall, the pile would reach the ceiling! In an
effort to reduce our paper consumption by at least 50% we will be requiring that all assignments be
submitted via email to our lectures. Our staff will also be using email to deliver hand-outs, assignment
briefs, and other teaching and learning resources to our students.

Recycling: Envirosavers Limited has agreed to donate separate waste bins for plastics and aluminum
cans. We will receive a donation of $10 for each filled bin of plastic and $15 for each filled bin of
aluminum. The proceeds of this venture will be used to fund our recently established Environmental
Club.

Energy: If we save energy, it will help us to modify the “greenhouse effect.” Please:

Keep the windows and doors closed in the air-conditioned classrooms

Turn off all lights in unused rooms

Do not leave taps dripping in the washrooms

Our Environmental Club invites all students to participate in designing its logo and creating its motto.
Please complete the attached entry form and return it to the school’s office on or before 7 May. You can
win exciting prizes including a smartphone, a 9-inch tablet computer, and cash. Please see the attached
