WORKSHOP

TITLE: Repair and testing of Steam Trap

1.0 PURPOSE:

This work instruction outlines the standardized procedure for the repair of steam
traps and their testing, aiming to ensure the efficient and safe operation of our
steam system.

2.0 SCOPE:

This work instruction applies to the repair and testing of steam traps at Fatimafert
Limited. It covers the repair process from inspection to testing.

3.0 CHEMICALS INVOLVED:

NIL.

4.0 HAZARDS AND RISKS INVOLVED:

 Skin damage while lapping.

 Sharp tools

 Pressure hazards

5.0 PPE’s REQUIRED:

Face shield, ear plugs, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, safety helmet and half
mask in operating areas.

6.0 SAFETY PRE-REQUISITES:

 Use all required PPE’s.


 Ensure that the steam trap is securely supported and not allowed to fall
on the ground during the repair process.
 Barricade the area before testing.

7.0 EXECUTION/OPERATING STEPS:

7.1 Disassemble the steam trap safely.

7.2 Clean all components using the appropriate cleaning agents to remove any dirt or
contaminants.

7.3 Use sand paper of suitable grit size to smooth and even the disk surface.

7.4 Carefully reassemble the steam trap components.

7.5 Testing

7.6 After successful testing, paint the steam trap using silver paint.

7.7 Ensure that paint is applied evenly and is allowed to dry properly before use.

8.0 Quality Control

Do a final inspection to ensure that the repair work has been successfully completed
by checking

 No visible leaks.

 Proper functioning of the trap.

 Correct reassembly.
