Debunked myths about selling

1. Anyone can be persuaded to buy - People usually say that a good seller can make
someone buy something that they don't need with the power of persuasion but that is not
true, sellers may try and persuade customers to buy their products but if they are
persistent on not buying it then it is better to try and find someone who wants and needs
to buy the product.
2. The customer is always right - Though it may seem that the age-old maxim ‘the
customer is always right’ is a rule for most businesses however, it is not always the case
as there are certain instances where the rule mentioned above is used as a way for
customers to exploit businesses for their own gains.
3. You should not take NO for an answer - Sometimes when people say No it really
means No, it does not mean that you are not being able to sell good enough or that they
are not that interested in the product that you are selling,
4. Extroverts make good salespeople - Salespeople have since been perceived as
talkative and loud given that their job is to sell to the customer and in order to do so, they
must of course talk to them. Extroverted people are able to make good conversation
which allows them to be more engaging with customers. However, oftentimes these
types of people lack listening skills given that they do more talking than listening. This
myth is far from the truth considering that new sales techniques focus heavily on
listening rather than speaking.
5. Sales can always be “Fully Automated” - Given how businesses are continuously
innovating due to technological advancements there are some businesses that have
already adapted to it and have replaced their human workers with automated bots as it
requires little to no attention (aside from maintenance) and it tends to be a good
investment for them due to the very reason that bots don’t ask for salaries however the
absence of a human worker would result to lack of “human connection” which is
beneficial in terms of influencing others to initiate a transaction leading to a purchase.

Myths that are still going around

1. The lowest price always gets the sale - This is not the case for some people who are
looking for quality in a product. Having the lowest selling price with low quality may not
attract people who have a flexible budget that is willing to spend more on a good product
than spend on a poor product.
2. A Great Product Sells Itself - It may sound true that a great product can sell itself, yet
there are many competitors that offer the same products. Additionally, products need to
reach the target market in order to be sold, products are sold by how companies deal
with their customers through genuine care and effort to inform their customers.
