TIMUN EMAS

My name is Mbok Rondo. Living in the small village. I am widow and feeling so lonely. I’m begging for
baby who can accompany me in my life. So, please God receives my prayer cause my life, all alone.

Once upon a time, there was a widow who lived in the jungle. She was lonely, because
husband was passed away long time ago. In a one fine day, when she was knitting in her home she
felt a ground shaking. To her surprise, there was a giant came to her house.

“Hahahaha……. Say my name, say my name…… I am Buto Ijo. Is the someone who needs a
help, you just can come to me. Say my name, say my name I am Buto Ijo. With all my strength no
need to scare. Because … I will take care. Hey … a little old woman. Do you want to have a baby,
right? Just take the cucumber seed plant it! And take a bigger cucumber from that plant! But …
remember! When your children became adult, sacrifice her to me! Hahahaha …”

Mbok Rondo took cucumber seed.

“Well, thank you, Giant. I will plant it. I promise will give this child to you”.

Then, she planted the seeds around her house. A few days later, the plant grew fast. In the
night, she saw a bright thing outside her house.

She picked up the golden cucumber. She took a knife and cut it. She was shock. She saw a
cute baby inside the cucumber. Since then, her life become happier. Ah, do you know the baby’s
name?

“Oh my cute baby. I will call you Timun Emas”.

Years after years, Timun Emas became a beautiful girl. She was kind, diligent, and helpful. In
the mids of the joy ….

“My dear Timun Emas, you have grown up so fast. Three days later you’ll be 17. But ….”

“Why mom? What you’re thinking of?”

“Actually, at the age of 17, you should be sacrifice for the giant. I can’t do that”.

 After getting the pouches, they went back. Few days later, the giant came to her house. With
his full strength and power, he came furiously to Mbok Rondo.

“Mbok Rondo …. Remember your promise to sacrifice Timun Emas. I am waiting for 17 years
but you don’t come to me! So, I come here to take her and make my belly full! But, if you don’t give
me, I will kill you. Where is Timun Emas?”

“Why you come back? She is away! I don’t know where she is!”

“You’re lying! Where is Timun Emas? Timun Emas is mine!”

The giant looked for the Timun Emas. Yes, the giant knew that Timun Emas was not in her
house, leaving Mbok Rondo in fear. He suddenly looked aat Timun Emas in the distance, running!

“I’ll catch you!”

“No! Just take this!”

Then, Timun Emas threw a pouch of cucumber seeds. Magically it became the cucumber
yards. Knowing this, the giant sat down and ate all the cucumber.

“So delicious. I am full right now, and I want to sleep, but … I have to catch Timun Emas”.

“Oh my Gosh, why it didn’t work, I have to do something”.

Knowing this Timun Emas threw the second pouch containing the needles. Then, there was a
bamboo woods in front of the giant.

“Ouch! It hurts”.

“Hahahaha … gotcha. Leave me alone! I want to live peacefully with my mother”.

“You think you win? No, it’s just nothing Timun Emas”.

The giant still could walk and chased Timun Emas. Timun Emas was so panicked. She threw
the third pouch containing the salt. Then, there was a deep sea behind Timun Emas.

“Just don’t chase me! Go away! I am happy with my mother now”.

“Hahahaha …. Do you think I am weak? No, Timun Emas. I need you, just come back”.

The giant surprisingly can swim through the sea. Timun Emas was so scarred now. She didn’t
want to be apart from her mother. She didn’t want to be eaten by the giant.

“I am so scared with giant. Big body face ugly. He follows everywhere I go top over
mountains or a valley low. Because, I am the one whom he dreaming of. Just let me go, God. This is
the last pouch. Please help me this time God”.

Timun Emas then threw the last bag containing the shrimp paste to the ground. Something
magic happened. The area in front of giant became a big swamp of boiling mud. The giant was
trapped in the middle of the swamp. Slowly but sure, the mud drowned him.

“Ah … people … let me out of here. Timun Emas I will kill you. Argh …

Finally, the giant was killed. Timun Emas then went back to the house. Mbok Rondo was so
happy. They lived happily ever after.
