 Can you describe the five pillars of a Marist education and their
significance?

Pillar 1 presence Marist aims to build a positive


relationship with the community we can achieve this because of our
shared Christian values we aim to learn by gospel values and grow
personally by respect to all of Marist including the facilities and the faith

Pillar 2 simplicity Marist believes in integrity truthfulness


and being open and telling others our struggles and successes and
encourages us to respect ourselves and others and teaches us to live with
humility and modesty not for power or fame but to be a good citizen

Pillar 3 family spirit Champagnat would want all of


Marist to relate to each other as a loving family the root of our love is the
love Jesus shows for all of humanity in the Marist family, we are all;
valued, trusted, honest to each other, forgiving, and genuine

Pillar 4 love of work at Marist our work gives us


purpose and meaning so if we work hard, we can all contribute to society
in a good Way if we work hard, we show; strong character resilience
motivation and teamwork we can then use these skills for good

Pillar 5 in the way of Mary the title of Marist is


based on Mary’s name and Champagnat shares many characteristics
with Mary some of these are; tender faithful, supportive and strong and
Champagnat believes in any situation for help and guidance as he did in
a snowstorm the Marist brothers’ motto is all to Jesus through Mary all
to Mary for Jesus

How does a Marist education foster a sense of community among students and
staff?

Marist fosters a sense of community among students and staff by always caring
about the student equally no matter of their past and students learn to respect all
the teachers especially how house group fosters a sense of family such as Ms
Westcott and Ms Ciastkowski

Can you give three examples of how the Marist approach to education has
positively impacted students?

Aden Power was the Dux of the College in 2021 he achieved an ATAR of 99.80 and
Proxime Accessit Liam Harcombe with an ATAR of 99.75. another person affected
positively by a Marist education was lieutenant general john Caligari he graduated
in 1978 he served the Australian defence force fore over 36 years he retired in 2015
as a three star general he was appointed to be the chair of the ex-ADF and families
suicide prevention trial by the federal minister for health

in the world?

A Marist education encourages students to make a positive difference in the world


by; teaching the students important life skills, giving them a healthy faith and
always respecting them. by doing this people feel valued and decide to make a
positive difference in the world and become an outstanding member of society.

Sacred site the quadrangle this sacred site is very important because it shows our
devotion to Champagnat and Mary it has the 5 pillars as well these are; family
spirit, simplicity in the way of Mary love of work and presence blessed by
archbishop mark Collery
Compare and contrast Marist College Canberra with a Marist School/Mission in a
developing country. Draw upon 2 of the 5 Marist pillars as well as your own
insights in your response. Since 1987 the Marist Fathers have been working
in an area of Brazil known as the “Sertao”. Poverty, hardship and constant
drought form a perpetual backdrop to this mission in this abandoned part of
the country. Over the years prolonged drought has forced many off their
lands and into the favelas (slums) of the large cities where they have built
skyscrapers and mansions for the rich and wealthy. The Diocese of Caetite,
where the Marists work. 2 of the most prominent Marist pillars are family
spirit shared by both the schools
