Design Engineering MEng,
Imperial College London,
United Kingdom
My name is Arnav, I am 21 years old. Currently I’m in my 2nd year studying
Design Engineering at Imperial College London.
2020-2021
I have always been fascinated by the idea of using a single object with Engineering and Architectural Design MEng,
endless possibilities. This concept inspired me to explore various interests University College London,
early on including but not limited to Origami, Speedcubing, Magic, Cardistry, United Kingdom
Photography and Videography. These interests grew into a passion for both
design and engineering which are now paving the path for my future. 2006-2020

BOXING
BLOCKS 01

Ever wanted to settle an argument with a physical yet safe way?

As part of the Initial Phase of our Physical Computing module -

GIZMO, we decided to build a non-contact, gesture controlled
boxing game.

CONCEPT
As board game and toy enthusiasts, we were motivated to combine a classic 60’s game with
modern technology. We wanted to make the ROCK’EM SOCK’EM ROBOTS more intuitive and
make the users feel a part of the game.

We eliminated the need for a physical interface and relied on natural gestures like punching
and dodging.

MECHANISM

04
Using a combination of 3 servo motors, 2 IR sensors and 1 Ultrasonic sensor per robot we controlled the individual arm and lateral movement mimicking the respective player.

BLOOM
02

Ever needed a hand in choosing the right accessory for your outfit?

Bloom acts like your personal stylist, suggesting jewelery based on

your outfit and occasion.

The auditory interface is navigated through the multifunction knob

06
making Bloom easily accessible to all.

INDIVIDUAL INITIAL IDEAS
As part of our Industrial Design Engineering module, we focused on improving the
morning routine of visually impaired users. These are my initial sketches of a Braille
Phone Case, Self Organizing Stationary drawer and a Smart Haptic Navigation belt.

FOCUS
After the initial phase, we decided to focus on the problem of finding and
organizing jewelery while getting ready. This project direction was supported
by user interviews along with various discussions with our module leaders.

The concept for Bloom utilized a stackable automated drawer system

powered by servo and stepper motors, rack and pinions. The dispensing
system relied on gravity and was highly energy efficient.

PHAROS
03

Have you ever felt unsafe walking alone at night?

The PHAROS system is an intelligent lighting, camera, and audio

system that utilitises the network of roadside lamps around the city.

When activated not only does it allow an immediate connection to

09
the relevant authorities, it record and even guides people around
the block to your location.

PROTOTYPING
As part of our Human Centered Design Engineering Module, we focused on improving the safety of women in
an urban environment. For this we developed multiple digital and physical prototypes and tested them with our
users and industry experts. Finialised a simple cylindrical design with one multifunctional button for ease of use.

THE PHAROS SCHEME

The PHAROS scheme effectively activates inactive bystanders by illuminating the PHAROS devices around the
corner of the area. These devices illuminate in a singular direction, guiding the public to the exact location of
the triggered SOS device. This allows for immediate help, much faster than any authority can reach.

AGAVE
04

Reinventing the system life-cycle for razors for an easy, frictionless,

recyclable and sustainable future.

Agave system allows you to intuitively perfectly sharpen your own

razor, reducing the number of cartridges you have to buy.

Once its time to replace your handle, you can simply break it open

012
12
and plant its seeds for a positive impact on the planet.

PACKAGING DESIGN
As part of the system design for Agave, we designed a multipurpose package
which was made of a cardboard composite. The packaging contained a foldable
stand for the safety razor along with a sharpening stone and a foldable container
for the refill razors.

SYSTEM DESIGN
We planned the system with a focus on increasing longevity of the blades along with thinking
about the end of life of the handle and cartridges .

The cartridges can be sharpened by yourself and once depleted, they are sent back to us for
recycling. The handle can be broken apart at the seam and the seeds within planted in your
backyard. The handle housing can be planted as well for nutrients.
