Electrician

There are a couple of reasons why this career is right for me. One reason it is for me is the fact

that electricians can work full time Aswell as the fact that overtime is common. Another reason why I

would like to work as an electrician is the pay.

The Median pay is around 60,000 which means there is a possibility to earn a way more in this

field of work. A final reason is that I would be able to learn multiple skills that come with being an

electrician like installing and maintaining wiring, control, and lighting systems.

Even though there are many ways to become an electrician, they all share one thing in

common and that is having to have an electrician certificate to work as an electrician. The most

popular way electricians go about it is by going into an apprenticeship and learning firsthand

with an electrician.

An apprenticeship can take anywhere from 9-12 months to be completed, which is a

factor to why it is a popular option.

A high school diploma is also required to get certified as well as to start advertising

yourself as an electrician. Going to an undergraduate school is also a good way to become an

electrician, the difference is going to school will cost more than going into an apprenticeship.

It could take 2-4 years to get certified as an electrician through collage depending on the

course that is taken. For example, if one decides to go to Chattahoochee technical school the total

cost for tuition, books, board and any smaller expenses will come up to around $14,400.
When it comes to being an electrician there are 3 different levels in the career. The lowest

of the three being an apprentice which has the least experience, as well as making the least

amount of money.

The next level is referred to as a journey man electrician, which is the second level of an

electrician career. Journeyman electricians make roughly $68,100 - $69,900 which can vary

depending on the level of work they have. Finally, the final level of an electrician’s career is

known as a Master electrician, `which on average takes 7 – 8 years to acquire this title. Master

electricians also make on average $73,100 – $74,600 will the possibility to make more money

depending on the level of work they are doing.

An electrician should have a wide variety of skills that will directly impact how they

approach their job. An example of a few basic skills an electrician should possess technical

skills, Problem solving skills, and good communication skills. These skills are needed so that the

electricians can be more proficient at any tasks they have at hand.

Some of the tasks that an electrician will run into commonly are reading blueprints or

technical diagrams, repair or replace wiring, control, or maintain lighting systems, and inspect

electrical components just to name a few.

Something else that should be mentioned is the prevalent downsides being an electrician

comes with. These downsides include working many odd hours, physically demanding, can be

dangerous, and you will not be able to become a full-fledged electrician right away. While

t=being in this work field does have quite a bit of downsides it has even more benefits such as

health insurance, dental insurance, paid vacations, holidays, as well as pension.

To summarize everything that has been stated so far, becoming an electrician is a good

career path to choose not only for the money but also the soft and hard skills that you will pick

up throughout your career. It Is also a career choice that has a wide space to expand and grow

within the work field.
