A Tribute to Kevin

Kevin’s Life Journey

When we think of Kevin, we remember his warm smile and gentle spirit. We
reflect on his love for family and his passion for music and singing.
Kevin was the first-born child, and only son, of the late Stanford and the late
Ursula (Tucker) Hart. He was born on December 18, 1958 and enjoyed the full
attention of his parents until the arrival of his sisters Beverly and Lauren.
Kevin began his educational journey at Northlands Primary School. He
attended Sandys Secondary from 1970 to 1975, and during his time there he
played on the football team (defender) and also developed his love for music
and honed his singing skills. He and a group of his friends from his music class
decided that they wanted to form a singing group in their last year of high
school. This led to many singing engagements and the formation of a group
called ‘Brothership Connection’. This group even competed at the Battle of the
Newcomers at Rosebank Theatre in the 1970’s. Kevin was quite the charmer
and debonair fella in his youth! After graduating from Sandys, Kevin attended
Bermuda College, from 1975 to 1977, where he completed his certificate in Air-
Conditioning & Refrigeration.
As mentioned above, Kevin had a love for music. He loved to sing and play the
piano. His first music teacher was his godmother, the late Eulyn James. He later
went on to receive piano lessons from various instructors at the Dzofonoo
School of Music and also with Tony Bari. Kevin enjoyed listening to the music of
the 70’s and 80’s and his sisters have vivid recollections of the Chi-lites,
Stylistics, Blue Magic and Smokey Robinson (to name just a few) playing on
repeat during their childhood. Kevin was blessed with a beautiful singing voice;
his falsetto was quite impressive. He could really hit and hold those high notes
ever so sweetly. Singing brought him so much joy his entire life. Kevin
furthered his love for music by attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston
in the early 1980’s.
Kevin was quite active in the Mount Hill and Dandy Town communities,
particularly in his younger years. Neighbors and friends have lots of fond
memories of time spent with Kevin and many lasting friendships were formed.
The family has been touched to hear all of the stories and recollections of the
good times that were shared.

Kevin encountered some challenges along his journey, but he remained kind and
gentle at his core. He kept himself busy around the house and was always
working on one project or another. Kevin and Dad were a real team! Kevin
would cook and clean around the house, always leaving his room for last…. well
actually never! Nonetheless, he was happy and content. Dad could be seen
driving Kevin to Arnolds or Gorham’s almost daily to get food and other required
supplies.

Dad was a pillar of strength for the family. He was always there to assist and
support us, and as his health was deteriorating it was now our turn to assist and
support him, which we did to the very end together. Dad relied on Kevin’s
strength to support him and regularly told us that Kevin was doing a good job.
Kevin’s last birthday celebration on December 18 was very special. We had
dinner at the house, enjoyed cake, took pictures and Dad joined us in singing
happy birthday to Kevin. This special memory and the days that followed will
forever be etched in our hearts.

We will miss Kevin’s melodious voice and his mischievous grin, but we know
that he is now at peace and singing with the angels.

Kevin leaves to cherish his memory siblings: Beverly Cann (Noel) and Lauren
Bell (Coolridge); nephews: Justin Cann (Carla) and Cameron Bell; nieces Ciara
Bell and Shannon Cann; great-nephew: Theodore Cielecki-Cann; uncles:
Maxwell “Keible” Hart, Derrick Hart, Melvin Gibbons; aunts: Marion Tannock,
Violet Tucker; Eunice and Dawnette Hart; great-uncles: Edmund “Eddie”
Fox and Edward Leslie Trott; many cousins and relatives including the Hart,
Smith, Burrows, Scott, Stowe and Tucker families.

He will also be fondly remembered by god-daughters: Cha’Von Clarke-Joell and

Nakia Smith, the Mount Hill family, the Dandy Town family, Brothership
Connection, Sandys Secondary alumni and Garth Angels.

Kevin was predeceased by uncles: Eldridge “Pop” Smith, Ashton Smith and
Lionel Hart and aunts: Carolyn Gibbons, Lorraine Tait and Barbara Hunt.

Weep Not For Me

By an Unknown Author
Weep not for me though I have gone
into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long,
upon my soul’s sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul’s at rest,
there is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed,
for all those many years,
There is no pain, I suffer not,
the fear is now all gone,
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
in your memory I live on.
