FACT FILE ON SHEEP FARMING

Where it takes place -Sheep farming takes place in Asia, America, and
Africa for milk, meat, and their wool.
Type of sheep breeds used -Specific sheep breeds, like Scottish
Blackface and Welsh Mountain sheep, are raised for their hardiness in
these areas.
Challenges - Extremely low wool price and excessive cost of wool
clipping, excessive cost of nutrition and lack of timely animal health
services, fast disappearing grazing land and common pool resources,
reluctance of new generation in sheep farming.
Feeds used - Sheep graze on natural pastures, consuming various
grasses, and vegetation.
Flock size - The number of sheep raised per hectare ranges from 50 to
500 animals. The average flock size is around 200 animals.
Products - Sheep farming yields lamb meat and wool, with distinctive
flavors from the sheep's diet.
Economic and Environmental Impact- sheep provide several sources of
income throughout the year in wool, meat, and other sales.
