Course Title: Advanced Principles in Dispensing and Medication

Aims: To provide students with basic and essential principles of


pharmaceutical dispensing in different health care settings.

Learning Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:


Outcomes: a. Explain in details the importance and needs of a
pharmaceutical dispenser in different health care
settings;
b. Judge and identify abbreviated medication orders
and instructions on medical prescriptions;
c. Evaluate the mechanism and use of medication on
physiological and pathophysiological states;
d. Explain the correct work flow in dispensing;
e. Apply the underlying principles of good dispensing
practice; and
f. Identify the appropriate medication management and
care to residents in elderly homes and clinics.

Teaching and Learning Methods:


This course will be taught in both lecture and skill training format, using interactive form of
presentation and learning. Instructors will identify and illustrate with examples the main concepts
and techniques of relevant topics, and facilitate effective classroom discussion.

Aims: To equip students with knowledge of ageing and late adulthood as


well as the abilities to reflect and analyze concepts, models and
theories that are central to relevant topics and issues in relation to the
ageing societies with particular reference to the context of Hong
Kong.

b. Identify the logistics and implication of elderly care delivery
model;
c. Explain the common issues of older adults;
d. Identify appropriate assessment for the older adults and;

Course Title: Ethical and Legal Issues in Health Care

Aims: To provide students with background knowledge of basic ethical and


legal principles which influence clinical decision-making in health
care setting.

Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

a. Apply the concepts of human value development and their


relationships with ethics and law related to health care;
b. Explain patient’s rights and professional accountability;
c. Analyse the complexity of ethical and legal factors which
influence clinical decision making;
d. Appraise critically the complex ethical practice and its
relationship with culture;
e. Apply ethical principles and ethical decision-making
framework to the practice in healthcare setting; and
f. Critically analyse the conceptual framework for the ethical
standards of the profession.

Teaching and Learning Methods:

Students’ learning includes lectures and seminars. The lectures provide students with knowledge
of basic ethical and legal principles that influence clinical decision-making. The seminars allow
students to integrate, analyse, interpret, and apply knowledge and concepts of related areas in
solving legal and ethical issues involved in health care delivering. Instructors will identify and
illustrate with examples the main concepts and techniques in relevant topics and facilitate student
discussion using cases drawn from students themselves. Students are expected to actively
participate in class discussion.
