thousands of words wrapped in an endless stream of images but often these reduce the diversity of
countries and their people to simple key shades we can aim to go beyond mere postcards to transcend
this convention to dive deep into a living picture in constant transformation
Our world keeps growing in a few decades the population will zoom past the 10 billion mark but we live
on a finite planet with limited resources we face one of the most demanding challenges reversing the
consequences of climate change pursuing sustainable growth and development for all as the countdown
is underway to achieve the 2030 agenda and its sustainable development goals the decade of action
looking beyond idyllic postcards will discover our responsibilities thanks to its remarkable transformative
power tourism has the obligation and the capacity to drive positive change.
Tourism is one of the strongest sectors matching or outpacing the growth of the global economy and
world trade one out of every ten jobs worldwide depends on the sector tourism is breaking records and
the figures keep on rising we are now more than 1.5 billion international tourists in a decade we will be
at least 1.8 billion responsible growth is our goal so that no one is left behind
Building values opportunities through inclusive sustainable and equitable tourism only then we will give
the others their well deserved leading roles placing women cultural heritage communities and the
environment in the foreground beyond postcards beyond stereotypes the actors are changing priorities
are shifting that is our destination better growth through a partnership between counties diplomacy and
innovation strengthening and creating lasting bonds transcending borders and fostering peace and
prosperity reinventing how tourism is practiced each and every day always ready to act ever committed
to people and planet.
