To advance to the State Class B
Volleyball Tournament at Brick Breeden
Fieldhouse on the campus Montana State
University in Bozeman a team needs to play
some of the best teams. Glasgow will have
to do that this weekend at the Northern B
Divisional in Malta.
The Scotties go in as the fourth seed
from District 2B and will square off against
Fairfield at 1:30 Thursday afternoon. The
Eagles won the District 1B championship
after defeating Conrad. Choteau, which
in the past has been dominating the 1B
and division, finished fourth and will play
Fairview, the 2B champs, at 10 a.m. Conrad
and Malta follow and Wolf Point and Shelby
follow the Glasgow match.
Glasgow will have to play hard and play
its game.
“Truly, it’s just playing our type of
volleyball that we’ve been playing. It’s going
to be a wild weekend,” said Glasgow coach
Brooke Martin. Reflecting on the District
2B Tournament which the Scotties hosted,
“I think the girls got worn down a little bit
after losing to Fairview. They just wanted to
get them so bad because they know they are
right there. So not coming out with that win
got to them. By the time they played Malta
they were exhausted.”
Glasgow has a solid line up where the
other teams rotate players in and out. Gina page bumps one towards the front line in District 2B action
continued inside this past Friday. The Scotty freshman is a gamer!

I know I just host a little old radio show here in
Montana...but it was pretty obvious very early on in
the COVID-19 craziness: the virus likely came from
the Communist Chinese lab in Wuhan, China. We
then quickly realized that; yes- that fraud Dr. Fauci
helped fund “gain of function” research at that very lab
in China.
Check out this story about a strain of coronavirus
that was sent to a lab here in Montana back in 2018.
I first got word of this story via a post on X.com on
Tuesday afternoon:

“The other teams rotate in nine or 10 girls, so by the
time we played three matches in one day, you don’t have a lot
left,” said Martin. “We’re working on some things, Fairfield
has a couple really good middle blockers and a good outside
hitter. So we’ve been just doing some scout playing and
working on those type of things. Working on serve-receive,
nothing big, just some little changes, Hopefully just playing
some really good volleyball, trying to make our passes. Macy
(Martin) got worn out by the third set because our passing
got a little rough from time to time in the tournament. We
have to get Macy so she can set to whoever she wants. We
worked on that and it’s going really well. They’re playing
really good volleyball and they are excited for the weekend.
We want to go into this weekend with confidence. They’re
playing amazing volleyball right now, they just had a rough
Friday.”
Martin said that’s how tournaments go, you have a
rough day and you don’t finish where you want to.
Malta swept Scotties in the fourth place match Friday
evening. Glasgow had to rally, twice, from five point deficits
to get to within two, 24-22, on Joelly Chappell’s kill. Hayden
Green followed with a block, but Denvyr Tuss scored on a kill
to give the M-ettes a 25-23 win.
Glasgow (11-8) held a 15-8 lead in the second set before
the M-ettes rallied for a 25-20 win. The Scotties also led in the
third set, 8-5, when Malta rallied again. The M–ettes went on
a 15-6 run for a 20-14 lead. Glasgow got to within five twice
before Malta won 25-19.
Nyquist led the Scotties with 11 of 25 kills, Green had 3
of 7 blocks, Chappell 16 of 73 digs, Gina Page had all 3 aces,
and Macy Martin 23 of 27 assists and 16 digs.

A doctor at an insane asylum decided to take his

inmates to a baseball game. For weeks in advance, he
coached his patients to respond to his commands. When
the day of the game arrived, everything seemed to be
going well.
As the national anthem started, the doctor yelled,
“Up nuts!” And the inmates complied by standing up. After
the anthem he yelled, “Down Nuts!” And they all sat. After
a home run he yelled, “Cheer nuts!” And they all broke
into applause and cheers.
Thinking things were going well, he decides to go
get a beer and a hot dog, leaving his assistant in charge.
When he returned there was a riot in progress. Finding
his assistant, he asked what happened.
The assistant replied, “Well, everything was fine until
some guy walked by and yelled, PEANUTS!’”

 OBITUARY
Gretchen Westby
Gretchen (Nelson) Westby was born March 15, 1941,
in Glasgow, Montana to Elsa and Clinton Nelson, the oldest
of four children.
She was the last person to complete 8th grade at the
North Bench Country School.After she graduated from
high school in Opheim and Montana State University, she
became an RN and worked as a surgical nurse at the Billings
Deaconess Hospital. She married Arlo “Bill” Westby on
June 10, 1964, and they purchased the Westby family farm.
Their first child, Karen, was born in 1966, and their son,
Todd, followed in 1969. In 2004 she was diagnosed with
breast cancer and was a 19-year cancer survivor. Gretchen
lived on the farm until the fall of 2021, when she moved to
Prairie Ridge enjoying the relationships she had with the
residents and staff, playing cards, and going to Bible study.
She often shared, “This is the place to be.” Gretchen passed
away peacefully on October 28, 2023, of natural causes.
Gretchen was very involved in the Opheim community
and had a servant’s heart. She was dedicated to her church
and volunteered to teach Sunday School, VBS, helped with
church functions, served on the church board, participated
in Ladies’ Aid, and did a lot of behind-the-scenes work.
She was also an essential part of the formation of the North
Valley County EMT and carried the pager for many years.
She was in the Legion Auxiliary and helped with their
various service activities.
Gretchen was a rock, a kind soul, and always someone
you could talk to. She was a top-tier farmwife and a master
at preparing large quantities of food for big crews and
family gatherings, sometimes in a short amount of time. She
summer fallowed, hauled grain, and helped feed cows. As a
true caregiver, the list of people she helped in our community
was long, including her husband, Bill, during his last few

Gretchen is preceded in death by her husband Bill; her
parents Clinton and Elsa Nelson, her brothers David and
Carl, and nephews Ryan, Clint and numerous loved ones.
Gretchen is survived by her daughter, Karen (Roger)
Mayhall, her son, Todd (Lori) Westby, and her five
grandchildren: Quinn (Madison) and Paige Mayhall,
and Brooke, Blaire, and Ty Westby. She is also survived
by Susanne (David Stubbs) Isakson and daughter, Faith.
Other survivors include her sister Doris Moore, sisters-in-
law Karleen (Roger) Kleeman, Lynette (Tom) Hagan, and
brother-in-law Kerm Westby, and other family and friends.
Family will receive friends Friday, November 3,
2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bell Mortuary in
Glasgow, Montana. Funeral services will be on Saturday,
November 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Opheim Community
Church in Opheim, Montana with Pastor Owen Childers
officiating. Interment will follow at Lawndale Cemetery.
Following the service, a luncheon will be served at
the church. Condolences for the family may be left at
bellmortuarymontana.com.
