Student eBooks Tips and Techniques

for

VCIs Teaching VMware Delivered Classes

1. Always download the “Sign In Sheet” to determine who is confirmed for the class, not the
“Roster Export”. Only confirmed students receive eBooks. Note: VMware students must be
manually confirmed by your GEO EDU OPS.
2. Confirmed students start receiving eCodes 5 calendar days before the class starts or if they are
confirmed within that time frame, they receive an eCode periodically as the myLearn chron job
runs (usually within 2 hours of confirmation).
3. To locate the redemption code if the student claims he/didn’t receive email:
a. You could locate the redemption code on the roster to the right of the student and/or
click on the “Prepared Link” on the Class Properties page. You will see the student’s
name and to the right of the student’s name you can hover over the green check mark
and see the student’s personal redemption code. You can copy and mail to student.
b. If you would rather have the student contact your GEO OPS person, the GEO OPS person
can perform that service for the customer.
4. 24/7 Customer support Contact Info – including:
a. Note: Student’s redemption email comes from a no reply email at Gilmore. There is no
email support – only telephone and live chat.
b. VitalSource Bookshelf download issues to either personal devices or a computer in a
classroom
c. Questions about other devices (iPads, Android)
d. How to make comments and add highlights
e. How to share comments and adding friends – the social networking capability

5. All Students are restricted to printing 10 pages at a time. The pages are watermarked but we
will not change this configuration. We want to encourage students to use the comments,
highlighting, and social networking feature.

6. The student has 4 rolling licenses – 2 for a PC/MAC, and 2 for mobile devices; if the student is
using the eBook in a classroom not using his own personal device, the student should de-
authorize the workstation at the end of the class. The instructions on how to do this is at

7. The student wants to remove an older version of a book from his account – they need to send
an email to evantage@gilmoreglobal.com with the name and version of the book you’d like to
delete, and the customer service person will delete it.

8. Beta to Production Updates: If the instructor or student downloaded a Beta eBook, you will be
prompted to accept an update when the eBook is Generally Available. However, at this time,
due to the tools used to create the courseware, no delta information will be provided. Further,
if you made comments or highlights on the Beta manual, the highlights and comments will
remain, however, they may appear out of place if the pagination in an eBook changed. The
highlights/comments are tied to the position on the page, not the text.

9. Usability and Enhancement requests – please email them to evantage@gilmoreglobal.com as

the vendor collects all the enhancement requests and VitalSource is on a 6 week maintenance
release schedule.

10. No known bugs at this time.

11. Students are only provisioned for an eBook for a class they have paid for – they do not have
unlimited access to a store in the same way an instructor does. Please see a representative
email that the student receives on the next page.
