The document argues that governments should be responsible for funding and controlling scientific research rather than private organizations. It provides three key reasons for this: governments have the resources and ability to fund research projects even if they fail; the main motive of government research is public welfare rather than profit; and government research ensures national security by not disclosing sensitive information. Overall research funded and directed by governments can set high standards, share knowledge widely, and prioritize areas of research that benefit society.

controlling scientific research rather than private
organizations. To what extent do you agree or disagree? MY ANSWER: Scientific research plays a very important role in the progress of a nation. It is argued that research should be controlled and funded by the government, and not private organisations or institutions. I totally agree with the argument that the government should carry out various research works in different fields. In this essay, I will outline the reasons why government should be responsible for research projects. There are several reasons to support my view point. Firstly, the government is capable of providing financial assistance to various research projects. Moreover, if the project fails to achieve its goal, the government has the resources to cope up with the losses incurred. Secondly, the main motive of the government in conducting research is public welfare. Thirdly, when government funds research activities, there is utmost security. They do not disclose any information which could hamper national security. That is why research and development in the field of military is carried out by the government. Although governments have to allocate resources to many areas of public spending, it is essential that they be responsible for scientific research. Firstly, the highest standards can be set by providing funding for university departments to carry out high-quality research designed to benefit society, not to break into new markets or to gain a competitive edge. Knowledge thus gained can be shared worldwide throughout the academic community. Additonally, government-decision making is the best way to prioritize expenditure on specific areas of research, taking into consideration the needs of society, both present and future. One example is the development of renewable energy to meet growing demands. On balance, I would argue that although it is not realistic to remove all opportunities for privately funded research, governments should have the main responsibility for the monitoring and controlling of this.
