CHAPTER II
Literature Review

A. Cooperative giving question and getting answer

Cooperative learning model Giving Questions and Getting Answers was invented by
Spancer Kagan, a Swiss national in 1963. This model was developed to train students to have
the ability and skills to ask and answer questions, because basically this model is a
modification of the question and answer method and the lecture method which is a
collaboration using pieces of paper as the medium. The Giving Questions and Getting
Answer learning model is one of the active learning that implements the constructivist
learning model that places students as subjects in learning.
According to Suprijono (2014: 107): The giving question and getting answer model is
a model developed to train students to have the ability and skills to ask and answer questions.
The activity of asking and answering is very essential in the pattern of interaction between
teachers and students. Asking and answering activities carried out by teachers and students in
the teaching and learning process are able to grow new knowledge in students. The Giving
Questions and Getting Answer model is carried out simultaneously between the question and
answer method and the lecture method, so that students are not in a state of blank mind.

B. Speaking

Speaking Skills According to previous studies that have been carried out by many
researchers, speaking is defined as an act of producing vowel sounds. We can say that
speaking is when we can speak or express our thoughts and feelings in spoken language.

Kurudayioglu (2011) argues, speaking is considered as fundamental and basic in the

performance of language learners both individually and socially because it is a human
communication tool to interact. In addition, Diyyab et al. (2013) suggested that
communicative competence is needed to gain mastery of the language rather than just
focusing on single language literacy. Ellis (2012) also asserts, interaction is a key element in
language classrooms and learning occurs when meanings and unclear points are discussed
using collective interactions in the classroom. Moreover, Ellis believes that acquiring
grammatical and structural competence can be achieved by mastering speaking skills
