TOPIC: CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF CLOTHING

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: at the end of the lesson, learners should be able to;

1. Identify ways to care for clothing


2. State the ways of maintaining clothing

Care and maintenance of clothing are the ways of keeping clothes clean in a proper manner in
order to last longer.

WAYS OF CARING AND MAINTAINING CLOTHES

1. Learn basic repairs.


2. Mend your clothes as soon as they are torn.
3. Store clothes properly, either by folding neatly and storing in boxes/ suitcases or hanging
with suitable hangers.
4. Do not store dirty or damp clothes.
5. Empty your pockets before washing.
6. Wash clothes as soon as they are dirty.
7. Avoid washing clothes of different colors at the same time.
8. Let your clothes air out.
9. Study labels on the clothes.

TOPIC: MENDING AND PATCHING OF TORN CLOTHES
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: at the end of the lesson, learners should be able to;
1. State the meaning of mending and patching of clothes
2. Replace lost button
3. Remove stains from clothing

Mending of clothing is stitching torn clothing, replacing buttons and removing stains on parts
of the clothing or dyeing.

While patching of torn clothes is the use of a small piece of material to mend a torn clothe,
that is to cover a hole or stain on a clothe.

ADVANTAGES OF MENDING CLOTHES

1. It is free.
2. It saves cost.
3. It retains your favorite wears.
4. It improves your hand stitching techniques.
PROCEDURES FOR PATCHING OF TORN CLOTHES
1. Find a match or similar fabric to the cloth to patch.
2. Measure and cut based on the size of tear or hole.
3. Get your sewing tools ready/ set your sewing machine.
4. Place the cloth and patch.
